Hundreds of people have marched to the South Portland ICE facility.

The protest was organized hours after a man was shot and killed by federal agents in Minnesota while observing and filming them.

Yesterday, we joined tens of thousands to march.

This am, ICE responded with violence.

Alex was an ICU nurse, a union sibling, & an observer who stepped in to help.

This is a union state. We will continue to show up, to watch, to document, and fight

ICE is not welcome here.

this reminds me of the way i’ve seen susan bro speak about her daughter, heather heyer. when a fascist murders your child, you aren’t allowed to just grieve. you have to defend their memory, even their very grave.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.

"Please get the truth out about our son."

BTW when I say abolish ICE, I mean abolish it entirely and replace it with exactly nothing. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. That's it.

This is Minneapolis:

Your heart is broken and repaired in equal measure every day. It is your home.
This is Minneapolis:

I go to get some work done at the local coffee shop. They have an "ICE OUT MSP" sign in the window and a sign on the door barring entry to Federal Immigration Enforcement.

The place is much busier than normal.

This is Minneapolis:

On the way home from dinner with family you see 24 distinct gatherings of neighbors with candles. You stop at yours and offer hugs.
This is Minneapolis:

As you are struggling to process your own emotions after the latest violence perpetrated on your community you drive past a single person standing on a street corner holding a sign.

You begin sobbing.

Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

Absolutely endless monster behavior from ICE & CBP. Detaining parents seeking urgent healthcare for their kids and who, in this case, had petitioned for asylum. All at the same hospital where they shot two people earlier this month.

PSA to journalists coming to MSP to cover the ongoing ICE surge: Please don’t roll up on our school patrol members randomly asking for info! 🤦🏽‍♀️

We keep getting reports of this and it freaks us out. YOU ARE DRIVING THE SAME RENTAL CARS AS ICE.

Get it??

In other words - North has the largest population of Black residents in Minneapolis.

Do not do stupid shit that leaves an already vulnerable neighborhood to deal with the fallout.
i feel for the people of north minneapolis if they’re about to become a protest hot spot from outside the neighborhoods. this is an area often neglected and ignored by even its own elected officials. people not from over north should really be judicious in how they act coming over there
Near Lyndale and 24th Ave in Minneapolis tonight, feds have reportedly shot another person.

Preliminary info is shaky for now, hearing two people injured.

BORTAC just rolled up in an armored vehicle. A crowd is gathering outside the police tape—MPD presence as well.

Lots of people running with ICE’s claim that someone attacked them with a shovel so they were justified in shooting two people. What kind of shovel? It’s like 10 degrees outside, there hasn’t been snow in days. Why would someone just happen to have a shovel on hand after a high speed chase?
