This is a delightful read about a really fun, not uniquely British phenomenon but definitely not a worldwide one, on Hollow Ways, which I personally consider to be deeply sacred spaces
There’s a lovely article here about them. Just if you’re interested. I bet goats have fallen on cars. Probably out of sheer belligerence.

Companies and institutions have given up on the idea of service generally. Now, it’s all about training the customer to do the work for them – and most of us don’t want to work for the companies we’re paying for service.
"Essential services are now digital by default, leaving many older people feeling locked out of their own lives."
As more of our lives move online by default, digital ageism has quietly become one of the last unchallenged prejudices, writes Fiona Daly.

Opinion: We’ve grown far too comfortable excluding older people from the digital world

obviously you only sell almost $6 billion in stock when you're certain a company is going to get even more valuable
Japanese giant SoftBank said Tuesday it has sold its entire stake in tech giant Nvidia for $5.83 billion.

Good thing that schools, universities and governments are so actively promoting modern languages then, isn't it? 1/2

This is not an accident. The BBC was set up as it was in the 1920s partly as a way of avoiding the screeching cacophony of early American radio - the medium which would soon bring the world the hugely popular fascist rantings of Father Charles Coughlin.
Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:
One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

The reason why I'm so angry has a lot to do with the lives that will be lost — people are absolutely going to die as a direct result of Senate Democrats folding on health care. It also has a lot to do with the suffering that was endured — people were struggling to get by without food assistance. 🧵

Air travelers should expect worsening cancellations and delays this week even as the government shutdown appears to be close to an end, as the Federal Aviation Administration rolls out deeper cuts to flights at 40 major U.S. airports, officials said Monday.
While Trump threatens controllers, US flight cancellations will drag on even after shutdown ends

In my defense, when I said “the democratic senate’s incompetence is a self-censoring fact“, I did not realize I was prophesying that they would make their own actions, in their capacity as senators, legally self-censoring in the eyes of the law.
National democratic leadership is getting so bad that it is becoming a self censoring fact in the same way that Trump’s evil and incompetency becomes self censoring
A real banner week for Chuck Schumer, given that only a few days ago he refused to back the Democratic nominee for mayor of his home city.

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?
