centrists will tell you to your face that we all need to abandon identity issues, and focus on kitchen table issues instead and yet when a leftist candidate runs a generational campaign based on kitchen table issues, it's the centrists weaponizing identity politics to smear the leftist.

COVID really taught me that men simply were not socialized to handle upsetting, unfair situations that are obviously beyond their control.

Trump II is reinforcing that for me. Our society simply does not equip cis men with the tools they need to be practical realists about this historical moment.
Men have not been handling this moment well… crashing out, or in denial
Every woman I know sees what’s really happening. Guys are still like, “He just says stuff. He just sent the military in for show.”

Why isn’t bell hooks’s writing around men and love not seen as a progressive text on how men can get laid, i.e., form healthy romantic relationships with people in their lives?

And one final thought: Ozzy going out after giving an emotional final performance that raised a ton of money for charity is more spiritually uplifting and did more genuine good than anything any televangelist and religious grifter who railed against him ever did combined.

Of COURSE, he made the White Party. Lol

Honestly, though, I think this is great news. Technocrats, centrists, and disaffected Conservatives populate both parties, so this base won't draw lopsidedly from one side or the other, so no split vote.

Buying a 10 second bite of your favourite song and play it until you hate it?
If my phone rang these days I’d probably launch it into a bath of acid.

"Christians" in Congress ignoring Jesus's command to not pray in public (Matthew 6:5-7) to beseech permission to ignore Jesus's command to give to the poor (Matthew 19:21) with their hideous Big Ugly Bill.

These are not Christians. They are selfish scoundrels who only pretend to follow Jesus.

Very striking how every right-wing conspiracy freakout was just a prophecy of what they planned on eventually doing - whether it was Jade Helm or FEMA camps, the moment they had the opportunity to make these imaginary monstrosities they came up with come to life, they did

The most effective lens to read Trump 2.0 through is the placebo-based wellness scams that also transfixed his base.

Trump is lacing friendly media with sugar pills of political theatre—Alligator Alcatraz!—to create an illusion of a safer America.

Everything's worse, but his base *feels* safer.
I’ve been hesitating about sharing this audio of a debate Ezra Klein and Ben Rhodes vs Kevin Roberts & Kellyanne Conway, b/c you’re all aggravated enough already, but I really found it interesting and you might too:

Experts say the trend paints a troubling picture of the harms of unnecessary delays in care. “This is striking,” one doctor said. “The trend is very clear.”

A new ProPublica data analysis adds to the mounting evidence that abortion bans have made the common experience of first-trimester miscarriage far more dangerous.

Human beings personify and grow emotionally attached to pets, drawings, even inanimate objects that don’t look like living things. They attribute thoughtful personalities to trees; find little robots cute and childlike.

Of course many humans won’t clearly distinguish between a chatbot and a person.
This is not a comment on this particularly, but I've said on different platforms there are relatively significant portions of humanity that aren't psychologically equipped to understand something that so closely mirrors human intelligence. Thinking through ~how and why it responds just doesn't work.
NEW: People are being involuntarily committed to psychiatric care facilities — and even ending up arrested or jailed — after becoming fixated on ChatGPT and other chatbots and spiraling into psychosis.

10 years ago, a Supreme Court that was starkly different from our current one made marriage equality the law of the land. Today it seems like a no-brainer that people should be allowed to marry the person they love. But not long ago, this was seen as a radical idea. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho4Y...
