We're excited to announce the longlist for the 2024 NBCC Award for Criticism! Congratulations to all of the nominees. www.bookcritics.org/2024/12/16/2...
My Poets & Writers class sold out! BUT, there is a waiting list, so maybe if enough people request a spot they'll open it up! I'll be talking about "mnemonic reading," and how pop culture can help us fill gaps in personal and public memory. Excited to teach it! www.pw.org/content/work...

Farm workers. The fields on the field. The legacies of slavery and colonialism—the sugar cane plantation, labor power, power crisis—despite it all, the future reaches through the tv to the past to make our postcolonial present.

The people of the Americas live on: seguimos aquí.

Not sure what you mean by theories, but there is very little knowledge production on Latine racial identity. Latines are taught to assimilate as part of an ongoing colonial project to empty the land of indigenous people, artificially inflate white majorities, and fight communism in Latin America

I just finished teaching a j-term course on neofascism at middlebury, and I framed the class around the idea that the main distinction between pre- and post-war fascism is the dominance of the cult of death. fascism pre-war seeks the state; post-war seeks immolation of self, state, volk, and nation.
disturbingly plausible

I want to start a press that sells $5 mass market paperbacks, with introductions by contemporary figures. Not a boutique press because reading is not a luxury. We’ll need to be subsidized to keep the price point, but we can’t let mass market pbs die to $50 hardbacks and Anna’s Archive 💔

The mass market paperback is what most people think of when they hear the word "paperback." It's the printed edition meant for the regular person. It's smaller and cheaper than the hardback & trade paperback, and it's going away.

There are few poets I trust more who can capture the constant present of the shattered colonial real, the specter of the past, the looping nature of un-time, unreality, that is forced into a procession line of exit and erasure, than Chaun Webster. lithub.com/letter-from-...

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

Most people do not grasp how warped our reality is that ICE even exists. Immigration and Naturalization Service, formerly INS, was a CIVIC agency—part of the Department of Labor. Racism and xenophobia alone militarized it under George W Bush following 9/11. This cannot be reformed. ABOLISH ICE NOW

What we’re seeing in Minneapolis began in Ferguson in 2014. Militarization of police, IDF tactics, gassing protestors w/ the same gas used on Palestinians. Between 2009-2016, Obama deported 3 million people without criminal records. And Palantir began operating in 2019. You weren’t paying attention.

Liam Conejo Ramos’ little Spider-Man backpack is destroying me. A five year old used as bait, and detained. No one protected him, not even the heroes of our imagination. May all our fantasies be revealed as the imperialist propaganda and failure of imagination they are.

My birthday wish is that you buy my book so that I can earn out, and hopefully keep writing. Thank you. bookshop.org/p/books/magi...

Hey folks Calvary Food Shelf has been helping out people in Minneapolis for 30 years, and now they’re ramping up to meet the crisis, including doing home deliveries so people don’t have to risk going out.

They’re just over halfway to their current goal—let’s get them all the way, shall we?
