That guy you know from that other platform. A guy, a news junkie, a research guru, a smartass, a dry wit, a twisted soul, a curator of the obscure and the obscene. Subscribe to my Substack for free.

Last bit of self-promotion for the day. For a limited time, $3 will pay for a full year of my Substack. Follow for free, or pitch in $3 to support my writing for a year. It's my lowest-priced subscription offer for the year. substack.com/@keithdwilson

I'm tired of the interviews with the Trump voters who now regret their decision. Yes, you got what you voted for. The warning signs were clear. Don't try to invoke pity now.

I've gotten more minor projects completed this weekend than I usually complete in a month. It was great to clear out a lot of the minor stuff so I can focus on the major stuff in the weeks ahead.

Trump wants to manipulate the price of gasoline by manipulating the price of oil. He thinks if he can get oil down to $50/barrel by taking Venezuela's oil he use cheap gasoline as a way to ensure GOP victory at the polls. Everyone loves cheap gas, right?

Sad to see the end of "PBS News Weekend" due to the politics of the Trump administration.

That's a nice notion, but I doubt someone could tell their landlord or mortgage holder that they missed out on 3 weeks of pay because they were serving on a jury. Civic duty doesn't put bills on hold. Should it? Probably. Does it? Nope.
January 11, 2026 at 8:04 PM
Someone posted that jury duty pay in their county hadn't been raised since the 1980s. How does this even happen? Who do they expect to serve on a jury if they're still paying what they were paying in the 80s?

Trump wants to get the price of oil down to $50/barrel. This would absolutely kill the oil industry, as it wouldn't be profitable to develop or maintain the oil fields and pump it out of the ground at that price. Why does he want this?

I've never understood people who get upset about letterboxing (black or gray bars across the top and bottom of the screen) and pillarboxing (bars on the left and right of the screen). I'd rather have bars than a stretched or cropped picture.

When you pretend you voted for Trump’s economic policies, but really voted for Trump’s racism and “stop woke” agenda, and it bites you in the ass. Woopsie.

I'm always concerned when a training program is slashed. You can't cram 16 weeks of training into 6 weeks. You don't get a competent trainee at the end of the condensed program.

How much of the support for Trump is actually the sunk cost fallacy effect?

We've reached the point where passive resistance is the same as domestic terrorism.

What have you heard? From the creator's standpoint, Substack is more straightforward with the subscription model and has easy tools to use.
January 10, 2026 at 8:41 PM
I think we have to admit that ICE is now Trump’s personal paramilitary force, responsible for reporting to him, with no other accountability.

My mom had a mortality jolt this week as 2 of her high school classmates died within 3 days of each other. Her graduating class had 26, and she says they're down to 7 who are still living.

For some reason, I'm gaining followers faster on Medium than I am on Substack even though I post to Substack first and promote my Substack more. Weird.

The fact that the Nobel Prize committee had to make a statement that the prize cannot be transferred tells us how unprecedented these times are.

Someone needs to ask anyone who says Renee Good got what she deserved for not obeying a cop if the same applies to Ashli Babbitt. I suspect they will try to justify a different answer.

When I started driving, gasoline was around $1/gallon, which would be about $3/gallon adjusted for inflation. This means I'm actually paying slightly less than I was back then, while driving a car that gets much better gas mileage.

One of my friends took a whole year off from social media. Apparently, the hardest thing was to get family members to communicate by email or text instead of assuming everyone saw the social media post.
