New peer-reviewed research from me and @drkowert.bsky.social!

We introduce the concept of "performative infighting" to describe the ways that extremists fabricate fragmentation and internal conflict to build collective identity. Here we focus on Steam. 1/

Frontiers | Extremist identity creation through performative infighting on Steam

aside, but I always find it kind of wild how coverage of the USPS can't help but talk about it in terms of profit/loss, as if it's something other than a core public service
I suspect this (written up in a paper owned by Amazon's founder and CEO) is a hardball negotiating tactic by Amazon. My understanding is that Amazon mostly uses USPS for last-mile deliveries in remote/rural locations that Amazon can't do itself profitably.
🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival.

It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy.

USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025.

my operative theory of authoritarian instability in the us continues to be supported. you cannot forge a strong authoritarian regime with these conditions:

- a twelve-year-old boy/magpie as leader
- apocalyptic ChrisNats, Groypers, tradCaths, and neo-Nazis all occupying different official positions
“everyone is twelve” has - sigh - made it to politico now

my understanding is that California has a tremendous amount of influence here independent of anything the feds may do or not do
well this is exactly the kind of populist move you'd expect out of this brilliant administration, let me just check gas prices and...

Also I tend to think that having to handle extensive accommodations is often a failure of curricular administration, and is one of myriad reasons that abolishing conventional grading is the way to go
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

it is a cosmic irony that adhd meds are highly regulated and thus I find myself continually in the situation of having to contact strangers and call pharmacies on the phone, both of which the meds make easier, while unmedicated

Yeah they want a “catholic” Christianity in the sense that it is a global theocracy, but what they want bears no resemblance to Catholicism or any widely-held Christian theological belief.

a few years ago, I spent a lot of time (for Reasons) looking at old Mencius Moldbug blogs and Peter Thiel essays and this has been in the works for well over a decade. The neoreactionary/neomonarchist project is Catholic-ish, but also holds the papacy (at least post-Vactican II) to be heretical
pretty clearly a bunch of these guys are pulling for a schism for reasons that are somewhat but not entirely opaque to me (they think they can run countries, plural, with a friendly American Catholic Papacy in South Bend)
It's pretty funny how the Silicon Valley tech bros have all suddenly decided that the actual Pope is the villain in their little narrative. sfstandard.com/2025/11/10/m...

bro the French moms stormed the imperial prison over less
people made at recon haven't read enough books to understand that intentionally and publicly cutting off the food supply—especially primarily for the sake of some kind of political gain—to the working poor has never happened before and is easily the most baffling move in the history of civilization
Fighting courts to cut off the grain dole is facially an insane thing for a government to do! Just begging to get blamed for an extremely destabilizing move for no benefit!

“Coffeeshop socialism” is the way forward, unironically
ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections
Off their phones and into the streets

the bull thesis on America— increasingly well supported — is that Trump magically finds 4% in the couch cushions composed entirely of people who took all their money out of banks during Y2K and refuse to have drivers licenses. I don’t think he’s wrong here.
He's actually kind of pumped about it when other Republicans lose, otherwise he'd be like "RIGGED ELECTION! INVESTIGATE NOW!!" He really enjoys the fantasy that everyone else is worthless without him
And Trump chimes in lol

Remap’s HOA podcast and @robzacny.bsky.social’s homebuying saga is the most riveting piece of media going right now. Better than any Netflix show any book any movie any painting. Better than the World Series
