everyone likes to ignore the parts where entire trades were wiped out, not like people found other jobs, they just died in extreme poverty

or where brutal labor conditions required the development of the police state because you can't have workers wanting to not be worked to death
I'm not going to sit here and say subsistence farming is better than being middle class in an industrialized country, bc it's not

But what folks miss is that the accumulation needed to effect development often requires real violence.

That's a real dilemma, and ignoring that does no one any favors.

I watched kendrick's halftime show again and who's even in the conversation for the next one, the bar is so high it almost feels mean to send some regular star in there

philomena cunk: and that's when a new idea entered the scene, the industrial revolution. no longer did people have to work long days on their land to feed themselves, they could get worked to death for someone else to buy up everything, and sell it back to them for profit.
Type of guy who has never heard of the enclosure movement but styles himself an expert in the industrial revolution...

One of the most miserable things about living in this era is having to watch the stupidest & most arrogant people in the world have to relearn The Why of literally everything good that we collectively do the hard way.

The answer is always ‘Because a bunch of people died, fuckwit.’

Every February, it's as if there's a competition to see how egregious the racism can get during Black History Month.

Because how dare we take a month for ourselves? An entire month? The sheer audacity.

Struggle is not the goal.

It’s the method.

To get free.

Too many people imagine struggle is the goal, so any acts of worldbuilding that prefigure freedom are dismissed as incidental, as distractions.

I think collectively, we at least partially wanted the child at the Super Bowl to be Liam because the little boy on stage looked happy and healthy and our hearts want so badly to think these children can somehow magically recover from the evils our government is doing.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.
‘He’s not the same’: Father of Liam Conejo Ramos says 5-year-old continues to suffer
Some people thought they say the 5-year-old during the Super Bowl halftime show. But Liam is still in hiding with his family, after he and his father were detained and then released from a Texas deten...

this is fantastic and my favorite is that technically france should have been listed (st-pierre et miquelon and martinique) but it's more correct to leave france out
I love this map.

These are the everyday stories here.
I arrived too late to an abduction yesterday. Ice vehicles boxed in a food delivery driver on the highway. They took him, and when I came on the scene (with a few other neighbors in cars), his keys were still in it. We found his phone, a debit card, his car title and registration.

It’s so so beautiful and I can’t even imagine what this moment means to Ricky.

Bunny gets to be himself in ways the industry didn’t let Ricky be, and Ricky’s here to support him all the way. No jealousy or hateration
