spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

what's happening in the sky tonight is why our ancestors didn't need screens, that and the terrifying visions in their minds of course

A few more photos from tonight’s incredible #aurora. I’m fascinated by the amount of red light tonight. This is generated by oxygen molecules being excited by light plasma at least 600 km above the Earth. The green is also oxygen molecules, but much lower (100-250km). Definitely a great night.

The #aurora reached at least as far south as here in El Centro, California, a few miles north of the Mexican border! So cool!

forcing millions of people to live at the whims of rich ghouls posing as public servants continues to be the incurable wound of this farce of a nation
This means the order that full SNAP benefits for November be paid out now remains blocked by the Supreme Court through the end of Thursday.

THE GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN CAUCUS IS BACK, MOTHERFUCKERS
I think it’s now safe to call this race.

Progressive urban planner Katie Wilson defeats centrist incumbent Bruce Harrell and will become Seattle’s next mayor.
Seattle's mayor race update:

Katie Wilson's lead grows to 1,346 votes over and incumbent corporate-Democrat Bruce Harrell.

Kate Wilson won 61.23% of the 6,121 ballots counted today.

Overall total:

Katie Wilson 50.08% 137,217
Bruce Harrell 49.59% 135,871
Write-in 0.33% 908

if we're getting technical it's a soy bean soup with coffee bean infusion and vanilla bean extract (so yes)
Yo.

Coffee is a bean.
Vanilla is a bean.
Soy milk comes from beans.

So a Vanilla Soy Latte is just 3 bean soup.

Right? RIGHT?

a new döner / pizza place opened around the corner and there's a few things perhaps contributing to its lack of success such as gray interior walls, black with red "graffiti" exterior (?) and posterboard menus but the logo with an ai generated animal that looks like a skunk (??) really seals it

This particular passage from Paradise Lost is one of those things that has stuck with me and affects how I see the world constantly. It really feels like it rewired my brain, to use the cliché.
there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

Dionne Brand's *A Map to the Door of No Return*

the poetry and novels too but Map opened up ways of reading and being in the world that altered everything

I do often read it in public it's a very good book to carry around and dip into
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
