There's one that is cloud based, but only sort of so I can see the teacher's responses, but I can't see what my wife sent to prompt it. And that's the good one.

"If you forget your login, call our wonderful school secretary, Marjorie. No, you can’t just call the office to tell Marjorie your kid is sick; you’ll need to call the office to retrieve your PITA login information, then log in to PITA to tell PITA your kid is sick."
Our School District Can Now Keep Track of Your Child with Just Three Terrible Apps
Other than lawsuits, losing track of a child is every school district’s worst nightmare. We haven’t lost anyone yet, but an EdTech company has pain...

I'm pretty sure my daughter just played in the greatest 6th grade ultimate game of all time. 8-8 at the end of time. The universe point went back and forth on the field 8 or 10 times. Both teams had miracle throws and catches. Absolutely wild. And my daughter's team won. She knows sports happiness.

Everyone going to the Canuck game tonight needs to be very careful and stretch thoroughly. The latest promotion is that one lucky fan in attendance gets to be the backup goalie.
Here is the #Canucks goalie situation as of this morning :
- Jiri Patera had to be called up to the NHL because of Demko
- Nikita Tolopilo and now Ty Young are hurt in Abby
-Jonathan Lemieux and Aku Koskenvuo had to be called up from Kalamazoo are the new duo in Abbotsford

The truly maddening thing is that, unlike when I was a young man in science and the materials and engineering just weren’t there yet, the future is *right there.* The problem is *solved*. What’s holding us back is not just greed, but this bizarre nostalgia, an obsession with petro- masculinity.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Someone once said that if you've ever moved in with family in desperation or been given money you needed by family or friends or taken out a loan out of necessity rather than want, you've accessed financial help and not everyone has that access, which is why we need systems in place for everyone.

We had pretty good numbers in Ballard. Something around 100, mostly groups of 2-4. We did have a couple of hilarious traffic jams on our front porch as multiple groups tried to trick or treat at once.
Seattle folks this is the second straight year of heavy rain yes?
I’m putting all my candy in a bowl on the patio and going to watch a movie.

absolute public service here; fabulous thread on what's in the Bill Gates memo that I guarantee most people are going to slam without reading when it's a pretty thoughtful 'world's fucked, maybe let's not leave so many people getting trampled at the bottom while we invest in climate solutions'
Gates begins by setting a straw man to knock down. Of course, as I like to say, the thing about straw men is I've met them, so I assume he's also subtweeting some folks in particular. He wants to know we're making progress and there's room to work on other problems.
