Husband, dad to two kids. Curious, and trying to learn more. Living in Seattle, but still a Canucks fan. Skiing at Baker. Working at MSFT. My opinions are my own.
What an excellent use of wealth; to truly love thy neighbor. As my partner said this morning, the next time we travel to a new place, we're buying whatever Rick Steves is selling.
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Crepe batter in the blender achieved almost perfect laminar flow this morning. Cooking is a great nerd activity.

Ugh. One of my sisters had her garage flood and some water made it into the rest of the basement. This is going to be a giant mess for so many people.

"Wake up, babe. New kind of passive-aggressive cat just dropped."
My cat has invented a new game, which involves trying to lie down across my keyboard *while I am using it* without me noticing

Pulitzer. We'll figure out the category later.

One of the joys my wife and I had recently was overcoming the resistance of our children to any movie more than five years old, and introducing them to The Princess Bride. They loved it. "Anybody want a peanut?" echoed through our house for weeks afterwards. Rest in peace.

@cviibyz.bsky.social this is an extremely random question, and I'm not expecting you to know, but if you were looking for sources for pictures of ancient Egyptian dwellings where would you start? My middle schooler has a project and wants to draw homes for nobles/middle class/poor Egyptians.

Chuck, I love you, but, other than the rock-hard nature of the apple, this entire review could have been:

Move fish,
Get out the flav,
Get out the flav, fish
Get out the flav.

This is a fine thing to want and there's no reason to believe it will work even ignoring the emergency room context everyone is coming up with.

Also $1T/yr is roughly the size of the Medicare budget.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

As a parent of a kid on the spectrum, bless these spaces. All info dumping, all the time.
A mom just came in SO EXCITED to find a map store bc her son would LOVE it.
She tries to be coy. "My son is... Really into maps. Real special kid."

I'm like, ma'am, this is a map store. Half my customers are on the spectrum. I have a trains and transit section. You're among friends.

The Name Everything Darren Aronofsky Has Directed Challenge.
Never mind movies you’ve watched multiple times, name a movie you’ve watched once and would never watch again.

I think I might be on Team Tank now (tail spinna for McKenna?). The Canucks out played the Wings pretty handily, and got goalied. This is a cursed franchise until the Aquilinis sell.

Let me just say: I have run more than a dozen marathons and an ultramarathon and I have worked 13-hour days in a cornfield in the scorching-ass sun, and none of those things broke me like breastfeeding.

It’s not a question of will. I am a determined person. Sometimes your body just WONT DO IT.

Using this as the start of having "The Talk" with my kids about being Canucks fans.
It's not about being happy as a Canucks fan; it's about finding new reasons and ways to be sad.

My only nit with this is that Excel is probably also the most successful specialist programming language in history.
Microsoft Excel is the most successful nonspecialist programming language in history

Goddammit people, the metric system is right there.

This article reads like the author very recently wrote an article about a small species of rhino and couldn't believe their luck.
