I used to hate Christmas in Vancouver because I grew up in Ottawa where December is usually snowy. Here, it's usually raining. But now I think it's kind of charming that everyone here still does Christmas activities in the rain because they're so determined to have a good time.

Stephen Sondheim: “Look, I made a hat. Where there never was a hat.”

AI Evangelics: “My 10 year old got bored with making a hat so he asked Nano Banana to finish it and this is what it rendered.”
This is just sad.

I really didn’t think I’d be doing this story again in 2025, but here we are

Why does B.C. keep hesitating to use emergency text alerts during disasters?
When floodwaters swamped Abbotsford once again last week, it brought back terrible memories for residents who’d survived the cleanup and rebuild after catastrophic flooding in 2021.

we'll see how much makes the final cut of the book, but people and cities around the world are so fascinating and full of things to consider and appreciate, and having to understand a few thousand folks who post constantly about how angry they are with the world is not spiritually rewarding
Kinda makes you wanna travel again eh?

People have as usual gotten big mad about this entirely reasonable observation and Good Lord do people need to let go of the idea that they are saving democracy by typing words into a scrolly-words app
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

always mighty interesting when anonymous lifestyle-focused websites start doing multiple stories about local political issues from one side (and in some cases with blatant untruths)

Whatever you think of the trade return, this being the end result of the Quinn Hughes era can’t be seen as anything less than an abject failure by the #Canucks organization, from ownership on down.

The focus of yesterday’s Whitecaps/City of Vancouver press conference was a new home for the team.

But if you looked closely, the real story was a big development play that could accelerate the transformation of Hastings Park.

ANALYSIS | How the City of Vancouver's deal with the Whitecaps could transform the Hastings Park area | CBC News
The City of Vancouver’s history began with a land deal between a government desperate for a product and a private corporation with plenty of perceived leverage.

Metro Vancouver's vacancy rate for private apartments eclipsed 3% this year, the highest it's been in more than 35 years.

The data comes from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation's annual report, which is the gold standard for rental data in the country.

An update on how the City of Vancouver provides real-time text updates and information about its council meetings.

Currently, the only way you can get that information is by having an account on X, the very fun website that everyone loves.

Yesterday, they passed a motion to explore alternatives.
