New article time!

This one's about Planescape: Torment. I was commissioned to cover it, so I have. I was... disappointed to find I didn't really like the game. I tried not to be too mean, but I really, really disliked this game's treatment off women.

okay here’s the one about planescape
Over the years, I have taken some commissions to write about various video games. One of those was to write about Planescape: Torment, and…

Rory Blank always goes above and beyond for us, his adoring fans.
This is the first and only time I have ever actually made a completely separate version of a design for different colorways. Different areas are filled in order to print the image on black vs on white, where usually I just flip the colors. It didn't look good, putting the outline on black.

Surprised nobody's made an hf8 equivalent for flight simulator. You have to get third party software to make it work :(

If you are visiting here from X because the CSAM thing was a bridge too far, welcome.

I'd encourage you to carefully consider whether the things you heard about Bluesky on X are true or whether they were lies spread by the guy who owns X who controls what posts you see on his site.

GROK knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective…

The officiant informs me that I can’t be sworn in on The Left Hand of Darkness. I open it up to reveal a smaller copy of Foucault's Pendulum inside. Everyone in attendance groans at my shit.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

to appeasing the chronic asshole because they're a chronic asshole and they OFTEN don't want the asshole targeting them.

Which is why you have to nip that shit in the bud. And if you don't/can't/didn't, then point out that dynamic and why you're done with dealing with it.

After reading so many online stories, I see one thing many people seem to miss in one dynamic

When a family group tries to appease the chronic asshole over the non chronic asshole who finally got sick of their shit and called it out...

it's because they want peace not justice and they're used

People are learning The Full Tewson. Let’s see how that works for them.
"What's your goal here?" is such a powerful way of putting the brakes on an escalating cycle of assholery without backing down.

It works SO well. Just "What do you want to have happen?"
Also if Karen starts shit back

I'd probably go with something like

'Okay, what's your goal here. What outcome are you hoping for with your comments. Do you think such things improve my cooking when you say the chicken was dry previously or my baked from SCRATCH CAKE was 'probably a box''

there's a line of thinking that makes sense at first but goes south fast.

"not all polite people are good." true important to know.

"all polite people are bad bc they don't stop injustice." That's a bit of a leap.

"In order to be good I need to be mean." no, you're rationalizing toxic behavior.

The kinds of JRPGs I really don't like are ones that lean into Final Fantasy's example when it comes to battles (i.e., them essentially being a formality) but then the Build mechanics aren't engaging enough to grab me.

Dragon Quest has always tripped at the gate for me cause of this.

assume that things "official" accounts like @grok post are "real" in a sense that just does not and cannot apply to AI accounts. It's hard cognitive work to recognize and correct that mental bias every time, which means that most of us, even the best of us, aren't going to get it right every time.

Ok, seeing both @normative.bsky.social and @adamserwer.bsky.social (who reposted this) describe this as "having Grok issue an apology," as though this came from the company, is eye opening and disheartening.

That "Grok apology" was a response to a RANDOM USER posting "issue a heartfelt apology"
Having Grok issue an “apology” is not just insulting and stupid (obviously Grok cannot actually “regret” anything, deeply or otherwise) but cowardly: It asks us to assign responsibility to an unconscious piece of software rather than the humans and institutions who should actually be blamed.
