New article time!

This one's about Planescape: Torment. I was commissioned to cover it, so I have. I was... disappointed to find I didn't really like the game. I tried not to be too mean, but I really, really disliked this game's treatment off women.

This isn’t a real thing. “Anglerfish are defined by gills that open behind the pectoral fins (as opposed to other fish whose pectorals lay behind the gill opening).” This isn’t an anglerfish. Also, it’s got a secondary mouth like a xenomorph. I’m betting it’s AI.
Yikes, that was unexpected 😱

A deep-sea anglerfish patiently waits...

These fish typically use a modified dorsal fin ray that acts as a fishing rod with a glowing lure (bioluminescent bait) to attract prey close by.

The fish can swallow prey up to twice its own size.

I mean they actively made it clear (even before the actual bots were made public) that they were going to use AI in that exact way. It's impossible to know right now what interactions or views on any platform are real but Meta platforms or X are blatantly and clearly not real.

All I will say is that this is one of those threads where extremely different online worlds collide.
why though?

If I say what I think whenever someone who has never been on food stamps tries to talk shit about food stamps and who they perceive to have been on food stamps, I would in all likelihood be banned from social media.

there are no medieval punishments cruel enough

threads, from the makers of facebook, a website that lied about text articles to force a pivot to video because facebook made more money on video ads, is telling you that their twitter competitor is real

i've met so many people who are like "these threads comments make no sense" yeah. ai generated.
my strongest social media belief is that threads isn’t real
Threads passes Twitter

My mom has informed me that 60 Minutes is "totally different now," and that they don't plan to keep on watching. Wondering how many Boomers across America have come to that conclusion. Hopefully more of them than not

Posters like “I am at great risk from the fascists so that means I must post and amplify fear and panic 20/7.”

Literally no you don’t. That is actually what the fascists want you to do.

Do offline organizing and get a no-screens hobby.

"we're going back through our own storage unit" is, if not decolonialized, then at least non-colonialized
Many proposals I've seen for making the dungeon crawl less colonial are really about *humanising* the dungeon:

The dungeon as community; monsters as people; etc.

Great! You should be doing this already. In pure design terms a humanised landscape yields more complex, more gameable stories.

I don't want to say "I'm back" or "I've still got it," because now Titanfall 2 is full of people who actually stuck with the game for the last seven or eight years

but it's still *so satisfying*

One from my latest Hidden Gems roundup, but still gotta shout out Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion.

70% goofing around with dumbasses, 30% shooting awful robots in their stupid faces. Genuinely funny, rude, crude adventure that feels like playing a gloriously daft webcomic. Also real beefy; ~8 hours!
Save 40% on Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion on Steam
An absurdist FPS/interactive fiction game where you murder stupid robots, chat with idiot people, and explore a painstakingly hand-drawn and highly animated world!

It has its moments but mostly near the beginning before it becomes a terrible slog. For a game that's as lauded for its writing, it doesn't hold up that well in the present. Planescape is a game of wasted opportunities. It's damning more than anything that it was a high water mark so long.

You're not the only one who noticed how it treats women, by the way. In my recent play through I noticed it again, and the documentation from development bears this out.

First pass on the next kofi model. Simpler design, but gonna take the time to get the style right.
Due to her being simpler, I'm going to try to offer 2 poses. One fairly basic and one more action-y

I haven't played Planescape (I am a big Disco Elysiam guy), but I am not sure my main thought after reading is that I would play the hell out of a game influenced by/loosely based on The Crying of Lot 49.
