Everyone is a spoiled, bratty 12-year-old who votes, except for the actual 12 year olds who are mostly better behaved.
There are many things I admire about America, but one thing I very munch don't is that in some ways it's a profoundly childish society. The political equivalent of stomping one's foot and going "but I *wanna*"
In a way, America was too imperially successful for its own good. It subjugated or eliminated its continental opponents so effectively - and faced no peer land opponents after the revolution - that it genuinely didn't have to take violence seriously except as something that happens to "bad people"

Inflation isn’t all the same. When prices rise because demand is strong, firms earn more and can raise wages. With tariff-driven inflation, firms face higher costs, not higher revenues—so prices go up but paychecks don’t. Same pain, less gain.

Where are the learning loss people? It’s hard to learn at school if you’re afraid to go because the secret police might kidnap you.
Charlotte-Mecklebburg Schools, according to reports, saw 15% of its students absent today amid Border Patrol operations in Charlotte. If that percentage of 15% happens Tuesday in Wake County due to the Border Patrol coming to Raleigh, 24.000 students could be absent from school. #nced #ncpol #wcpss

Have been thinking about “immigration has been tearing this country apart.” Surely I’m not the only person to think that it isn’t true, but inflamed rhetoric about immigration by politicians is what is tearing this country apart and so statements like that only makes it worse.

one of the most important things I think we can actually take aware of from the (gestures vaguely) last 20 years is that the people don’t want to negotiate. They don’t want to haggle. They want to walk into store and see The Price on something that is what is advertised to be, and pay it.
Trump: "THE ONLY HEALTHCARE I'LL SUPPORT OR APPROVE IS SENDING MONEY DIRECTLY BACK TO THE PEOPLE W/ NOTHING GOING TO THE BIG, FAT, RICH INSURANCE COMPANIES, WHO HAVE RIPPED OFF AMERICA LONG ENOUGH. THE PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED TO NEGOTIATE & BUY THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, INSURANCE. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"

And this basic mission should be one that doesn’t change much with political conjectures.

The one Finnish idea I’d like all Allies to adopt is the saying “in defence policy, the next ‘quarter’ is 25 years.“

Because that’s how long building up a really new capability tends to require.

Folks, if you didn’t grow up in a low-church American evangelical/fundamentalist baptist or Bible church you have no idea how easy it is for factions to split a church, excommunicate each other, and how that informs the coming schism in Republican politics.
"Haha what if the Pop-Tarts do a frosted/unfrosted schism" is great bc the average schism is due to stuff even less consequential than that

conceding to far right ideas about the structure of society is conceding to a zero sum vision of the world, and more importantly giving voters a choice between two zero sum visions, where one is half hearted and the other is full throated. is it really a surprise then they choose the latter?

(Is there a trend?

No, it’s the luddites who are wrong. Read UNIT X because they’re like stupid).
A second ARSOF senior leader has said there are too many gizmos and it’s causing a distraction from the fundamentals.

…and then the rest of the White House press corps pushed back against the president’s gratuitous insult aimed at one of their colleagues?

Oh wait! There’s no sign that anything like that happened!

Because access beats out solidarity, every day of the week.
