Next year's WorldCon is in Los Angeles, and the theme appears to be Westward Expansion or possibly Manifest Destiny. The guests are referred to as Pioneers and the venue as The Frontier. This year the awards were swept by Indigenous writers. The choice is stunning in its ugliness.

There's been a post circulating recently about how readers don't care about worldbuilding as much as they do about characters, plot, and emotional stakes. And I am absolutely sure that there are lots of readers like that! But also, I am a reader who likes to be immersed in a world.

Really stomach-turning to see E. Lily Yu's deeply transphobic substack post, and I encourage my trans siblings, particularly trans fems, not to bother reading any of it. It's nothing we haven't heard before, and it's presented in the same smug, pseudo-intellectual, self-righteous tone as always.
It is extremely sad to see that a luminary of SFF short fiction has revealed herself to be deeply and viciously transphobic, and specifically transmisogynist. I'm just so sorry for all of us, but especially the trans people in SFF who had considered her a colleague and friend.
