What doesn't get highlighted enough: bans on trans care almost never end just at healthcare specific to us. They're often a cover for just refusing to treat trans people period, for anything.

Even more so because we never had cancel culture. We had the beginnings of a suggestion of cancel culture and most privileged people and every vector of institutional power treated it like the biggest moral hazard the world has ever seen and spent an astonishing amount of effort to shut it down.

You cannot separate the current nightmare we now inhabit from the collapse/crisis in how rich, powerful middle-aged men perceive masculinity, especially their own insecurities.
I’m sorry, but a goofy looking guy who grew up a privileged son of a pediatrician and has a phd in social theory from the university of Goethe and started in tech by investing an inheritance left to him by his grandfather talking about being a “dude” is very, very funny to me.

plus we've literally seen the same process happen in real time in our lifetimes. like, we know that everything that's happening right now is bad, it's just the people saying that are ignored by the people doing it and the people who support them. same as it ever was, i guess.
this is of course obvious if you think about it (despite the massive propaganda effort to make this lie): it's not like there aren't several different major ancient world religions founded more or less explicitly on the concept of slavery being bad
To the extent my philosophy degree helped me with anything, it is the understanding that everyone was fully aware slavery was bad and kept doing it anyway.
