I pull out the phone, expecting to see a contact name I don't remember putting into my phone, which at least would SUGGEST I'm gaining some ground over [BigBad]'s mind control. "...just as phony as it can be." And I do see exactly that, but the name and the song sends my heart into my throat. "But it wouldn't be make-believe...." There on the screen are three letters, and just as many exclamation marks. ACE!!! "..if you believed in me."

While analyzing our 2025 submission data, I noticed that the US is now the primary producer of slop submissions (which includes fully and partially-generated/assisted/whatever). Congrats. You're #1. Happy? You should be embarrassed. Please stop.

(In 2023 and 2024, the US wasn't in the top three.)

Max drops his charming persona when w/ Hale to help get him over the crush. So Hale sees the side of Max that can be a selfish asshole & who panics w/ a change of plans

Your brain says, "do this" and your body goes "nah".

The slap triggers a fight response and maybe adrenaline, which can push past... sometimes.

For Sunny Ray, it's his hair...which in fact is made of vines with purple flowers on his head. It's the first thing we know about him, actually. And those vines are important for him and Jack, because touching them is most of the contact Jack has with him

A swell of music drifts out of the ballroom, the cello striking a mellow, wistful note that ambles toward us. Cyrus wordlessly offers his hand. I take it, a warm rush flooding my body as it folds against his. In the evening light, his eyes have the color and intensity of dark coffee. He smells like campfires and inky blackberries and the spruces where we walk together, and when our gazes collide, I am sure. I know what I feel, and I know what I see in his eyes—heat and desire and, yes, the bitter tang of uncertainty—but more than anything, there is longing. “You can tell me.” My eyes track back and forth between his as we sway. “Whatever’s holding you back. I want to know.” His quest over my face. “What do you think about promises, Storm Cloud?” I don’t understand. What will be the cost of my answer? No matter what I say, I suspect it’ll be painfully high. Finally, I reply. “I think they’re like cut flowers—prettiest when they’re new, ordinary when they die, small miracles when they endure.” His dimple flashes. “You and your poetry.” “Which you like to vandalize.” Our gazes snag. My fingers float to the back of his neck. “I found your drawing in my book, Cheap Shot.” His jaw ticks, but he says nothing.

Performance night has finally arrived for our circus crew just as a storm rolls in… #WIPSnips from TMF for “storm”
A storm rolled off the North Sea. It brought with it the promise of fall and a whisper of change. As the faint sound of thunder rumbled in the distance, Ætheren knew something was coming and whatever it was electrified him. As the winds picked up, Ætheren hurried about the camp, checking the tent moorings and securing any loose ends. The glowstones did their job, the little blue stones illuminating the pathways from tent to tent in an iridescent white light that sparkled all the more as a light rain fell. It was time. Performance night was finally here.

Then stops. In front of the doors that lead out of the hotel, Bug stands on a luggage cart, blocking our way. He holds on to the golden frame, breathing fast. Rain floods onto the street behind him. Lightning illuminates him from behind. "You can't go out there," he says. "Bug, what?" I say, but then I realize he's not even looking at me. He stares down Jesse, taller than someone for once, and his mouth is set like he'll challenge Jesse to a fight if it comes to it. "I have to get Evie to Caroline," Jesse says. "You *can't*. If you go out now, you'll lose your powers. So will she. And so will..." He shudders, then says again, "Can't let you take Evie out there." "She needs help." "Bug..." I stop to catch my breath. "You're working for [BigBad]?" He keeps his eyes locked on Jesse. "I can't let her go into the rain," he says through clenched teeth, "but I'll help you here. Whatever you need." The concierge is running over to us, waving his arms, and I have a feeling he'll push us out into the STORM if we don't clear out of the way. Or possibly call 9-1-1 on Jesse. I close my eyes to fight a wave of dizziness that passes over me. "Guys," I say weakly.
