“What the fuck are we hiding in the woods?” Tennyson asked. “A dimensional spacetime ordination unit.” All three of them stared at Poe blankly until he adjusted his glasses with a sigh. Poe was some kind of legit genius – everyone who knew anything about physics and stuff said so. He’d been doing the impossible since he was knee-high. If he said he had sensitive equipment, it probably meant he had either brought some new invention he was tinkering with or had borrowed something from the lab at his school. Unlike the rest of them, who were all taking advantage of free tuition at the college where their mom taught English classes, Poe had a full ride academic scholarship to the prestigious engineering university across town. He had also skipped enough grades that he was in grad school now, already working on a PhD in theoretical physics at the age of 19. Sometimes Byron thought Poe would change the world, or maybe save it – if he didn’t manage to blow it up first.

She catches herself and says, "Not here at the ski resort, of course. Just out there." I chuckle. "How'd they get you as the first face anyone sees at the resort?" Her answer begins with a groan. "I've been working here every festival season since I was fourteen. It corresponds with my ACADEMY’s holiday week, so Mom and Dad send me here. I tried to convince them to let me off this year so I could take an interplanetary trip with my friends, instead. But, nope, they want me to spend time with Bibi Xinyi, and they think the job is good for me. So, here I am. Even this year, when the resort hardly needs another staff member. Bibi Xinyi thinks it's some sort of honor that I'm in charge of the front desk, instead of helping the housekeeping staff this year." She rolls her eyes. "At least I didn't have to talk to guests when I cleaned their rooms."
