From Summer’s Cruel Warmth, Winter’s Gentle Chill 🌞🙃

She's at a desk, but I sometimes use the cushy couch in here for studying. Today, I lean against the back and rest my chin on my arms, watching her. When she doesn't speak, I sigh loudly and flip myself over, falling backwards over the back of the couch so my head hits the cushions upside down. I consider FT's form from this new perspective. She hunches over the desk, alternating between tools and magic from her fingers as she tries to get the gizmo to work. We always think of Mother Nature's impressive magic, but FT is her second in command, her advisor, and keeper of time itself. She's the one who keeps humans and seasons and Seasons progressing. That's some seriously powerful mojo right there. I don't know anyone else who can use their magic in this way, infusing it with mechanical items to make them work. So, when an audible whir starts up after she brings the little watch-like gadget to her mouth and whispers something to it, I can't help but applaud. "How'd you do that?" She puts her hand to her chest. "Sunny, I didn't hear you come in." She cocks her head to the side and laughs. "Why are you always in some ridiculous POSITION when I see you?"

I would say Sunny, Jack, Hale, and Nico are going to be well-understood by the end of their books

Evie & Ace are well-understood by the end of the trilogy, but so much more is revealed after book 1 & again after book 2

It took a lot of artificial confidence to get from shy, sullen Apollo Eastman to confident, smiling Ace Starr, but his success led to a persona even his own dad couldn’t recognize.

That would've required him to look at his son more than once a month. He makes up for it now, looking at me all the time. He has to. I'm the face of his company. And he loves me, finally. It just took a basket of apples to get him there. It was hard at first, talking to him, hoping he didn't realize who l was, but wishing he would see the Apollo in me, see how successful his son became. In the end, though, it didn't matter who he loved me as, as long as he did. And downing my own bottles of Pure East helped me gain CONFIDENCE in those early days. Now I don't need it to feel that CONFIDENCE bubbling in me. I get that from the knowledge of all I've accomplished. Not to mention the screaming fans. Not that it stops me from drinking it.

There's no central concept over the whole community, just a specialty for each individual

For example, a glamour witch can create illusions. They can choose to do the illusion over their own features. They can create an illusion over someone else. They can create a light source, etc

Ace is everyone’s favorite H/V character, so no surprise

Ace was meant to be likable, even though he’s the villain. He’s super-voicey & fun. He also has a sad backstory

Marcus’ fingers trailed down the glass, leaving streaks in the condensation of his breathing. “RKON, am I human right now?”“Of course you are.”“Really?” He turned and fixed the machine with his sad scowl. “My body wasn’t born, it was built. It does some wild stuff with computers that humans couldn’t possibly do. I don’t… die like a human. Are you sure I’m still human, RKON?”“Yes.”“But I’m artificial!” he snapped. “I’m not organic! I’m a constructed person!”“Marcus, since when has that meant anything?” A01 shook its body in negation of his claim. “What is a human? Does a human need to conform by a set of rules to be ‘correct’? Look outside. Look at the variety in modern humanity. Are they set upon a spectrum, with some more human and others less?”“But then…” Marcus swallowed, and then let out an angry sigh. “Where is the line? ... "Now... They're gone. All of them. We searched high and low, even the one who killed us originally in mythology to create our pantheons heaven, Marduk, is gone." He could feel the grin behind some of Tiamat's voices, while some lamented it. "What... happened to them?" Tycho asked gently, there was a pause. Tiamat seemed to consider her words, then... finally continued: "Gods do not speak of the Second Flame because they hate to speak of the fire that left ashes of the pages of their friends and family, as do we." Tiamat answered vaguely, "I see... I won't ask then." Tiamat's lips subtly curled at that response, her eyes narrowing. "The Second Flame was a War." Tycho's eyes went wide, he wasn't expecting her to continue. "The War of the Second Flame, a War between Gods, that ended many, and left more wounded in a way they'd never heal, including ourselves." Despite the gravity of her words, they came out in that same choir like tone that captivated the tanuki. "Primordial, it is what we are, and what a handful of other gods are. In mortal language it means ancient, sometimes it means to be original. Before anything... that isnt wrong when referring to ones like us." Tiamat noted as her eyes watched Tycho carefully. "But to gods it has one additional meaning; finality." Tycho looked at her confused for a moment... then realized what she meant, her face going sickly pale. "You'd die... for good?" "The dreams, and prayers of many God's and Rabbits answered. Eternal, true death." Tiamat confirmed, Tycho's ears drooped. "I... I'm so sorry." Tiamat's smirk grew, she couldn't help it, and Tycho noticed. "Wh-why are you smiling? Is it not-" "Your evaluation has proven passable." Tiamat stated bluntly, "Wh-wait where you testing me!?" "Of course." "Was all that-?!" "No. It was true. Every bit of it." Tiamat answered as she began her stride to Tycho's side. "Our history, the war, our mortality, all of it; factual history."

Black text, green background I hesitate, then touch the gravestone. A lump forms in my throat, and I swallow to push it down. Apollo. I imagine his adorable nervousness whenever he talked to me. I can still picture the beautiful smile he gave me once. The coffin was broken open by Digger, and the corpse's head is visible, but it's unrecognizable. I can't even tell if the bone structure is right to be Apollo's. It could be anyone. "Anyone," I whisper. "Apollo Eastman, you weren't invisible then, but you're unrecognizable now."

For Magic in Our Bones, it's more rules than not. Witches only work within their own specialties. So it's not like any witch could learn & perform any magic. Within a specialty, they only tend to have 1 or 2 abilities (love witch Lilia can only matchmake a certain way)

For Ren, “home” is wherever his hauntee is. Each lives in a house, so there’s a literal location he could technically call home, but as he’s tethered to the actual person (Shannon, then Blake) that’s the real “place” where home is for him.

Pentacles appears to be Hale. Growing up, he learned that his only chance to avoid the mines was to keep his debts low and make himself so useful that someone would pay his way out of the mines to keep him around. He was expecting his best chance would be the Senořa of his orphanage

Linkedin Post from a Pinterest designer reading: "Yesterday I was impacted by the Pinterest layoffs. I was Pinterest's only icon designer and product illustrator. In his email to the company, the CEO said "we’re doubling down on an AI-forward approach – prioritizing AI-focused roles, teams, and ways of working". I WAS working on AI projects including the Pinterest Assistant that soft-launched in October. If you haven't heard about that feature launch, you can find it on Pinterest's own newsroom or with a Google search. I was vocal internally about how our users don't want AI slop or features on the platform, how we as employees are feeling uncomfortable and discouraged about AI, and what I wanted from leadership. Last year, I told my manager I was worried about AI-based layoffs. I was told not to worry. At an onsite, we were told that "in the future", we would all be "managers of AIs". That I would be expected to manage some sort of AI employees, rather than craft and design my own work. Human-made art and design matter. I am never going to stop creating, even if the "home of inspiration" decides that creators are secondary to profits.
