I waited a day to say this bc I respected everyone's right to vent some anger, but *remember to focus on what you can do*. Whether it's defending your community, taking action around what you've been venting about, whatever — but don't let all of your energy get captured in the social media space.

Every time I find myself seething with rage--and I find myself in that state quite often, lately--I ask myself, "What actions can I take right now to make things better for someone?"
And it helps. Refocusing from feeling to action has kept me from spiraling, and has probably helped several people.

At the risk of sounding like a scold for posting about this too much: your call to a senator right now could be a key factor at a crucial moment. Please read this thread & call if you haven't.
Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

If you're fortunate enough to have a Democratic senator, please give them a call and tell them you want them to oppose any resolution that does not extend the ACA tax credits, you can reach the US Senate switchboard at (202) 224-3121 (you'll be prompted to select your senator at this line!)

I am so averse to having AI even make suggestions about my writing that I've taken to drafting my novels in private Dreamwidth posts. The HTML text editor has nothing to say about what my next word should be. (Doing this has the bonus side effect of making writing feel lower-stakes!)
