An explainer on where to start with Claudie Arseneault’s books decorated in aromantic and asexual colours. It contains information about 3 series starters. City of Strife (City of Spires) has a large cast of queer characters; mosaic-style POV, is novel length, has four books that form one big continuous story, and contains city politics and unrelenting kindness + love in the face of cruelty Baker Thief (Val-de-mer) has a limited # of POV (dual for Baker Thief), is novel length, all books stand alone, and is set in a city inspired by Québec, with romance tropes but made platonic Awakenings (the Chronicles of Nerezia) has a single main POV, is made of novellas, has an episodic format that works better read in order, and is JRPG inspired, with a found family road trip

I got through a lot of reading this past December, so here is part one of some mini-reviews focusing on indie books! All of these are queer fantasy.

💙📚 🌈📚
A post with mini-reviews for three books titled "Mini Review & Aspec Notes" The Reanimator's Heart by Kara Jorgensen. Beautiful historical fantasy filled with characters I instantly loved. “Oops I accidentally reanimated my crush” was always a killer pitch and it fully delivered. The Tenfold Tenants by E. V. Belknap I wanted to adore this chaotic crew of supernatural beings having to hide powers from the new human, but struggled somewhat with the tone and supervillainy entwined with it. Good fun, though, it grew on me once I accepted the ride for what it was. Very heartfelt found family and no romance storyarc! Non-Player Character - Veo Corva (Asexual Flag besides it) Fun, heartfelt portal fantasy with an ace autistic MC. Having to learn who was who in both the TTRPG and the real word is rough at first, but the massive found family feels and how every character gets to shine makes it all so worth it.
