I concur with my learned friend.
I love Goatskin, and this story. @brynhammond.bsky.social is my favorite current writer.

Fascinating review! I promptly bought the book for my e-reader...
Today at @nerdsofafeather.bsky.social I reviewed The Wolf and his King by Finn Longman. It's a gorgeously prosey retelling of Bisclavret, and one that feels deeply embedded in the stories of its 12th century inspiration.

Fantastic article by @levgrossman.com about Leonard Woolf sharing a cottage with B.J. Dutton in Ceylon back in the day, and how they embodied the two great genres of Modernism and Fantasy... Loved it!

The was the most talk about faith I have seen in a film for 20 years.

I was amazed and pleased.

And I hate religion
Three minutes into Wake Up Dead Man Josh O’Connor has a speech about what he thinks faith should be and it made both @margueritekenner.bsky.social and I, both as ‘ex’ Catholics as it’s possible to be, go ‘ohhhhhh fuck yeah. That’s it.’

Q for #Arthurian folk: I remember reading in #Malory about a Queen riding by in the distance, with her armoured women knights, heading for Camelot to joust with the men in a tournament. But I can't find it anywhere, and begin to wonder if I wasn't dreaming...
Can anyone help with a reference? ⚔️

I worked fulltime in demanding jobs (HR then tech writing), but that enabled me to accumulate enough super so I could retire at 55. I live on my pension now.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Anyway I think part of why Master and Commander is so great (on top of the source material and the casting) is that even though Weir was shooting an action movie, he wasn’t afraid to leave a lot of languid “hey, doesn’t this just *look*cool?” moments in it

Excellent (and sadly true) article by the erudite Michael Winkler @micwink.bsky.social in WAtoday. The only solution I've found so far is for authors to celebrate themselves and each other. My friends, we all deserve it. 💙
