About 3 years ago I was visiting New York City and a large number of places there still hadn't adopted contactless payments, something pretty much every store/pub/restaurant in even the most rural villages in UK have managed to figure out.
People forget that Great Britain is basically Alabama outside of London only poorer people with weaker constitutions and worse food.

About 3 years ago I was visiting New York City and a large number of places there still hadn't adopted contactless payments, something pretty much every store/pub/restaurant in even the most rural villages in UK have managed to figure out.

One hand this is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard in my life. On the other, I am cautiously optimistic this government is too lazy and inept to actually implement it.
The government plans to link university fees to institutional "quality". This is a nonsense because there are no metrics that actually measure teaching quality. There is no Ofsted, rather a handful of largely irrelevant statistics to actual quality. The NSS measure satisfaction, not quality.
