every time i use this crosswalk, i'm always so thankful for how it slows cars speeding toward or away from lake street. i had no idea it took someone being killed to get it installed. utterly heartbreaking the current city budget wants to ensure it happens again somewhere else in the city.
After a driver killed Linda Mensch, left, in front of the conservatory, CDOT installed a raised crosswalk to help prevent future deaths. City is currently considering cutting Safe Streets funding by 70%. Here what we can do to stop that.

dumb question for @starlinechicago.bsky.social or other metra experts - do you know why metra electric doesn't stop directly adjacent to the flagstop stations? the conductor has to unlock the gate, let people in & out, and relock the gate. which is inconvenient on a good day let alone in the rain

i've ridden my bike past these units on my way to work and the facade is genuinely striking. it's really pretty and almost glows in direct sun. yes, beautiful affordable housing in my backyard!
