shoutout to the crowd that insisted it was a political loser to stand up for abrego garcia’s rights
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an ordinary man, has defeated the great might of the US Government
Kilmar Abrego Garcia is free. every bit of cruelty, boasting, slander, and persecution was for absolutely fucking nothing.

every time i use this crosswalk, i'm always so thankful for how it slows cars speeding toward or away from lake street. i had no idea it took someone being killed to get it installed. utterly heartbreaking the current city budget wants to ensure it happens again somewhere else in the city.
After a driver killed Linda Mensch, left, in front of the conservatory, CDOT installed a raised crosswalk to help prevent future deaths. City is currently considering cutting Safe Streets funding by 70%. Here what we can do to stop that.

remember how like nine years ago trump saying this exact thing in a private oval office meeting was a five-alarm fire with NPR and NYTimes and CNN grimly reporting that POTUS called some countries "shitholes" and our institutions, i don't know, cared?

now he just says it openly at a rally. rad.
TRUMP: “I said why is it we only take people from shithole countries? Why can't we have some people from Norway, Sweden, Denmark… But we always take people from Somalia— places that are filthy, dirty, disgusting.”

Such a mystery what he means when he says this stuff, isn’t it?

I have come to the idea that we have to collectively, brutally, ritualistically kill Target just to show capital that we truly aren’t fucking around.

Computers were a skill. They were taught in classrooms as a skill. Skills give you power over your tools because you work them as an expert and that is leverage to multiply externally.

And then computers became an A/B tested telemetry-based advertising conduit to brains for SaaS recurring revenue.

Every single Democrat should instantly condemn him for this and demand a retraction and apology. Blow it up. He's supporting domestic violence! It's nightmarish!
Trump minimizes domestic abuse during a talk at the Museum of the Bible: "Things that take place in the home, they call crime ... If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say this was a crime, see?"

dumb question for @starlinechicago.bsky.social or other metra experts - do you know why metra electric doesn't stop directly adjacent to the flagstop stations? the conductor has to unlock the gate, let people in & out, and relock the gate. which is inconvenient on a good day let alone in the rain

i don't think we're making quite enough hay over the fact that the KKK literally used to (still?) call their middle managers "king kleagles" and "grand goblins"
TIL - one reason for the KKK’s explosive growth in the early 1920s was that it was a multi-level marketing organization

I was more than 100 feet away from a bison near the Great Salt Lake and he turned and glared at me and I was like alright cool I’ll be going bye now

Western Avenue is really funny. Hey what if the longest road in our city sucked absolute shit? What if we had a major road that made you want to end your life regardless of transportation option? What if said road had parts of it had express lanes and flyover ramps? Honestly iconic

can't wait to pay more taxes on my meager substitute teacher salary to offer relief to the poor, downtrodden people making more than $41,000 a month
Congress’s bill “would RAISE taxes for low-income Americans (Those making $30k or less). Every other income group would see LOWER taxes. The biggest savings would go to people in the $500k to $1 million income group.”

the way this ad copy dehumanizes elderly people—"stimulate their mind," "support emotional well-being"—is sickening. it's like they're advertising a cat toy. i can't believe i'm becoming a technology hater but this is horrific

wow! an article created in a lab specifically to make my rural inner child and my urban adult self absolutely livid! really incredible stuff here!!
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
America Needs More Sprawl to Fix Its Housing Crisis
The word has become an epithet for garish, reckless growth — but to fix the housing crisis, the country needs more of it.
