During the 👑 festivities, the Red Bridge bikepath is blocked, while 4 car lanes remain open.
Over 1,500 daily crossings now face dismount signs and a narrow path. Some choose the main road, exposing them to high-speed traffic.
The message is clear: cars first, people last.

Cycling during Vëlosummer in Luxembourg is a delightful experience: roads closed to cars, enjoying beautiful nature, greeting everyone with "Moien", and sharing happy vibes with fellow cyclists

The planned bike lane on Kirchberg for the tram extension (K2A) is once again not continuous. This fragmented design creates conflict between cyclists and pedestrians. If we’re serious about sustainable mobility, we need coherent planning—not another patchwork solution

The N7 in Walferdange is finally being redesigned – but the cycling infrastructure still falls far short! 🚴‍♀️❗

After years of waiting, the redesign of the N7 in #Walfer is finally moving forward – but anyone on a bike quickly sees the flaws.

Today, Luxembourg’s first red asphalt bike path was officially unveiled in #EschAlzette.
This should be a glimpse into the future of cycling infrastructure in #Luxembourg: wide, smooth, and safe, this is the standard every bike path should meet.
Let’s raise the bar across the country! 🇱🇺🚲

Congratulations to @zug.lu for winning their legal case against the City of Luxembourg and gaining access to the city's internal files regarding the evaluation of its pedestrian crossings. 👏🏾

This is a victory for transparency, public accountability, and the safety of our streets and crossings.
What was @luxembourgcity.bsky.social trying to hide?

Turns out: not much — unless you know the law.

Then it gets wild: The City didn’t just bend the rules. They invented a parallel legal universe. 🌀👩‍⚖️

We now know: the MMTP agreement never existed.

🚲 Celebrating #WorldBicycleDay on Luxembourg’s first-ever red-asphalt bike path in #Esch/Alzette!
A smooth ride, a greener future, and a powerful reminder of how two wheels can transform our cities and the world. 🌍💚

Welcome to Boulevard de la Foire, the most #car-centric street in #LuxembourgCity. This four-lane, one-way thoroughfare is often #gridlocked during #rushhour.
Pedestrians are given just 6 seconds of green light to cross it. It's a prime example of #urbanplanning that prioritises cars over people.

I stayed in #Rotterdam for a week. I missed cycling along those smooth #redbikepaths.
I cycled through a new area next to the University of Applied Sciences. It was filled with life: #greenspaces, busy #terraces, and people picnicking by the water. This is what new developments should look like.

Can we talk about the definition of #bikepaths vs #bikelanes? I think we need clearer terminology between the 2
For example, in 🇫🇷, a #voiecyclable means an painted lane, while a #pistecyclable indicates a protected path. This clarity would also improve discussions about #cyclinginfrastructure in 🇬🇧/🇺🇸

This street in Oslo is a trial for a bicycle priority street. While it might look ordinary, it has more going on than meets the eye:

- Closed to through traffic, even though it is a major route for the fire department 🚒🚨
- A continuous sidewalk over a side street, and red asphalt (not common here)

Adding this 2.3km stretch of #carpoollanes cost €50 million. If I were to use the same disingenuous arguments often used against #bikepaths, I would say that this was a waste of 💶 because hardly anyone uses them. But the majority of cars carry one person, showing how space-inefficient 🚗 infra is.

I can't believe this gravel path is part of Luxembourg’s national cycle network. They even updated the signposts to the newer(ish) format.

#Luxembourg-City, congrats on the reopening of the Martyrs parking garage! It's great to see that it offers #bikeparking for 32 bikes, (although by the photos I can only see 11 #bikeracks) and a repair station. Question: How can one access the parking by #cycling when all entrances prohibit bikes?

During my bike ride through #Esch/Alzette, I was thrilled to see new #cycling infrastructure being built. What excites me is that these new #bikepaths are wide, separated from traffic, and continuous. This makes me hopeful for the future of cycling as a viable mode of transport in #Luxembourg.

Good to see a new separated bikelane in rue St. Exupéry (Kirchberg). Not really happy with the positioning of trees and narrowing of the bike lane though. Strange & unfinished design.

#Luxairport will finally have a #cycling connection alongside the new #Luxtram line.
While I appreciate that the ⬆️ #bikepaths are (mostly) separated from traffic, I am disappointed by their narrow width (~ 1.20m). This will make it difficult for faster cyclists to overtake slower riders.

Although I believe that stand-alone #speedcameras are ineffective, I disapprove of #Waze promoting reporting mobile speed cameras as it undermines speed enforcement.

Where I live, alerting drivers on the spot about a #police presence is prohibited, but I'm unsure if this applies to app reporting.
January 20, 2025 at 11:42 AM
Unpopular opinion: I believe that painted #bikelanes can be a suitable option if they are adequately implemented. If a road has low traffic and a low #speedlimit, wide bike lanes can be a good choice. However, if one of these factors is missing, separated #bikepaths are the only suitable solution.
