The main side effect vaccines have on children is that they live to be adults.
This enrages me beyond all measure. Dogs are a primary vector of rabies. If you love dogs, you would never EVER want one to experience the absolute horror of rabies.

50-70k people die of rabies a year, BTW, mostly contracted from dog bites. Routine vaccination means <10 of those are Americans.

Political commissars overseeing course details to eliminate political wrongthink, and deputizing students into a snitch network, has a distinct whiff of the Cultural Revolution*.

*Though that involved mass murder, hence only a "whiff"
Message to all faculty: your expertise is no longer trusted or valued at this so-called “university.”

Dear NPR,

You do not work for the president.
You are not his public relations team.
You do not need to try to boost his public image with “preparing to take on the concern,” especially not when referring to problems he has caused or made worse.
Your job is news.
Or at least it’s supposed to be.

I've said from early on that I don't think there is any there there in the Epstein files, re Trump (other rich dudes, yes). I doubt he raped any teenagers; he prefers to rape slightly older women.

But boy the absolute panic on the Right is making me reconsider my priors here.

Not for nothing, this is one reason why we say "pregnant patient" instead of "woman." It's not just for non-binary inclusion.
In addition to the fact that it's very much the power imbalance and legal responsibility to protect them that makes them children, it's also disturbing that so many people are willingly like "listen, 15 year olds are hot, and that's a fact." They are children. They look like children.

More than anything else, economic pain will be the one thing that causes Trumpers to turn on their Cheeto hued golden calf. It's probably the motivation behind floating stimulus checks and the tariff rollbacks for items that cannot be made here.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but I wondered why UVa in particular drew the DOJ's wrath. It seems like it's a combination of Younkin's Presidential aspirations and Dhillon stabbing her alma mater in the back to impress Trump.
my takeaway from this letter is that glenn youngkin, rector sheridan and their flunkies on the board are deeply dishonest people who are engaged, with the trump administration, in a mob-style shakedown against the university of virginia
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

I will NEVER forget the student I had from Gabon years back who said her ambition was to become a medical doctor so she could go back and serve the poor in her country. That is the kind of person anywhere in the world we want to encourage and help.

As a fellow UVa alum, I share Jamelle’s disgust. This is behavior unworthy of a governor, unworthy of a board and unworthy of Jefferson’s University. All because they didn’t want too many Black kids admitted.

America's higher education system is the envy of the world. People pay enormous amounts of money to send their kids here. Some of them stay and become part of America; others go back and spread our ideas. It's win-win-win.

So naturally, these folks want to kill it.
Has anyone written a piece on how Batya Ungar-Sargon ended up like this? On this particular interview she also told Megyn Kelly that she thought the United States should ban ALL foreign students.

I mean, I get it, but it also shows how used we've gotten to prosperity. Our ancestors had children under *far* worse circumstances than ours. And you can survive surprisingly long on soup.
"This year was the first time in survey’s 11-year run Americans said finances were the top reason they capped, or planned to cap, the size of their family. They cited it twice as often as any other factor, mirroring nationwide concerns about rising costs."

Most Americans say cost is limiting how many kids they have, survey finds
Seven in 10 respondents said they believe raising children is too expensive, a notable jump from 2024, according to an annual public opinion survey on U.S. family life.

Again, I fail to see the difference between the policies they are enacting and those they would enact if they were being paid to wreck the country.
This is designed to tank public health & primary care by excluding public health professions, advanced nursing practice, physical & occupational therapy from loans that can cover the cost of education. This is going to make an existing workforce crisis worse.

Note: A lot of people keep asking why the docs released the other day weren't released under Biden.

The short answer is 1) alleged ongoing investigation/prosecution, 2) scope 3) Privacy Act and 4) CVRA, which mandates that victims hear from DOJ.

It matters that DOJ is ignoring the latter.
“So you’ve heard nothing from this administration as this has been playing out?”

I mean honestly, has he ever met someone vulnerable that he wouldn’t rob, abuse, or exploit in some way?
