Illinois must build 227,000 more housing units in the next five years if it is going to keep pace with demand, according to an economic report released Tuesday.

Owner occupancy requirements for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) have been repeatedly shown to substantially reduce the number of ADUs that are actually built. Looks like a number of Chicago neighborhoods that "allow ADUs" will nonetheless impose owner occupancy rules.
