Disappointing news out of Nebraska, where the University's Chancellor's Final Budget Reduction Plan continues to call for eliminating the Dept of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences - notably, against the recommendation of the university's Academic Planning Committee.

Guys:

The Senate is a Confederate institution. That means even when you *can* manage to elect red state "Democrats," they will *still sympathize more with the Confederacy than with the United States.*

Schumer sucks, get rid of him. But that won't fix the Senate, which must be yeeted into the sun.
the caucus gets how this is *worse* right? if you're just going around Schumer, what's the point of leadership

Gas stoves emit methane, nitrogen dioxide and fine particulates at levels known to contribute to asthma and cardiovascular disease.

🧪 NEW STUDY: The annual indoor health cost of a single gas stove = $5,258

A big part this is from childhood asthma.

This is disappointing. The APS merged all of the regional Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) into one conference in Colorado for 2026. This will make attendance for undergraduates a lot more expensive in terms of both money and time. ⚛️ 🎢 👩‍🔬 #WomenInPhysics

Good write up. Honestly as someone who reviewed housing elements at HCD, I found that time and again local planners and consultants used sneaky tactics to reduce the feasibility of multifamily housing. I find the insistence on local bottom-up reform to solve the housing crisis hopelessly naive.

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

“Germany used renewables to phase out nuclear before coal” is the most accurate way of describing it. which is still a nonsensical decision given the relative emissions profiles of nuclear vs. coal
I often read on social media that Germany just replaced nuclear with coal.

That is evidently not the case.

Coal generation is down by more than 60% over last decade with nuclear now gone.

However, Germany could have phased out coal by now if it had kept nuclear generation going at 2011 levels.

One of the first things our cousin uttered about the strength of Melissa: climate change.
No doubt about it: Climate change made Hurricane Melissa way worse.

An analysis of the storm found “all aspects of this event were amplified by climate change, and that we'll see more of the same.”
