It’s because it doesn’t really do anything. Cities have to tell applicants they can’t use spray irrigation (which is actually already prohibited in local codes for cities to qualify for water wise rebates) and the type of new development it applies to are mostly using water wise principles.
Up early to check committee votes I missed (because what else is there to do on a Saturday morning?) and I am SHOCKED that Rep. Okerlund's bill cracking down on spray-type sprinklers PASSED the House Political Subdivisions Committee 7-2: le.utah.gov/~2026/bills/... Off to the House. #utpol #Utah

More Utah resorts offering deals in addition to ikon and snowbird: Deer Valley 50% off a half day ticket, food discounts for season pass holders (including ikon). Solitude: free parking on Fridays.
Next week is make or break: forecast is wild: anywhere from 2 to 47 inches.
You know the snow situation in Utah is bad when ski resorts will give you resort credit if you visit them. The ski industry is hurting, but this follows years of record profits

Update: Sen. Harper tells me that he's not calling on SLC to outright remove recent traffic safety projects in SB242, but it would require the city to look at modifications in certain areas and add more signage to clear up any issues.

"There is no word in there that says remove," he said.

SLC is "still very much reviewing" SB242, the update to SB195, says Angela Price, SLC's legislative affairs director, in response to the next bill now out building on last year's SB195.

"We're still doing a full analysis on how this will impact the city." #utpol

Here is the follow up to SB195. It’s not good, but not as bad as what was said was coming ( full removal of protected bike lanes on multiple streets).

This would also absolutely end the chance of MLB in Utah. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more fights at sporting events than anywhere else. What could possibly go wrong?

A four way stop, at an elementary school. Speed limit is 20 mph. If you aren’t seeing someone in the crosswalk, you aren’t looking and probably didn’t come to a full stop. Several kids have been hit in this intersection.

Dire. Needs drastic, consequential actions immediately. The GSL drainages are at record lows. The odds of more than slight improvements are dwindling. I think step one: cap the daily water use of all industrial users, prohibit any new bottling beverages with water (yes including breweries).

Dreadful. And we are 10+ days away from any real potential changes. I bet that 20% chance of catching up this winter drops to less than 10% in that time.
A snowpack update as state water leaders speak at an appropriations committee meeting this morning:

Utah will likely set a new record low on Sunday, at least in the modern era of tracking. Since 1981, the lowest point to start February is 5.4 inches of SWE in 2018. We're at 5.2 #utwx #utpol

Lindsay Vonn’s crash shows the typical mechanism of injury for a torn ACL: weight is behind when back hit the snow, L knee mostly flexed, and her skis made a sudden turn to the left. Not saying it is torn, she is insanely strong and agile. Hope she is fine and able to ski in the Olympics.
