Nice to see the Walker Center sign lit red for the first time in like a month
An incoming storm system may not be the biggest to hit Utah, but it should help break up the stagnant weather that's contributed to the state's all-important mountain snowpack falling to a record-low level. https://ow.ly/Gj7H50Yc1Cm

To clarify here, Puy tells me that the city is supportive of the conversations and process of crafting SB242. Told me after the meeting it's been much better than SB195.

So it sounds like it's more of the "we wish this bill didn't exist" but if it is going to happen, it better look like this
SLC Council Chair Puy is here, reading a statement in support of SB242, saying the city wants a "world-class transportation system" in place ahead of 2034 #utpol

I'm here at the Utah Capitol ahead of SB242's first committee meeting today.

A few tweaks have been made to the SLC section ahead of the meeting, one reduces the lane size requirement from 11-12 feet to 10-11 feet. #utpol

"It's not that sexy, but it's years like this where it really pays off."

Utah's resorts will almost certainly see a decrease from previous years with poor snowfall, but this year won't be catastrophic either.

It comes from decades of making sure not to repeat 1976-77:

Utah's winter has been rough, but an equally poor winter nearly 50 years ago likely helped resorts avoid catastrophe.

Why the water outlook for Lake Powell and Utah just got worse
Inflows into Lake Powell were already bleak, and January didn't provide any favors.

Colorado Basin River Forecast Center just released its updated water supply outlook following January, and it's... even bleaker.

Inflows into Lake Powell could end up at 2.4 million acre-feet, which is just 38% of normal, barring a shift in change. Chances of normal are very low now #utwx

A Great Salt Lake legislative update: HB410, HB348 and HB247 all cleared the House Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Committee this afternoon.

Those help with funding + efforts to lease water to the lake #utpol

Update: Sen. Harper tells me that he's not calling on SLC to outright remove recent traffic safety projects in SB242, but it would require the city to look at modifications in certain areas and add more signage to clear up any issues.

"There is no word in there that says remove," he said.

SLC is "still very much reviewing" SB242, the update to SB195, says Angela Price, SLC's legislative affairs director, in response to the next bill now out building on last year's SB195.

Interesting discussion in SLC work session today. SLC is seeking to rescope FY26 Open Streets funding for other things, like the upcoming Olympic watch party and America 250 events

So it sounds like Open Streets likely won't take place this year
