Ebikes are cheating!
They also rob you of a chance of an aerobic workout!
Ok, did you go on a sunset ride with 1800 feet of climbing?
Seems aerobic

This is the land-use next to our new Wilshire subway. Large lot SFH.

This is our land use in the middle of a freeway interchange. New construction because NIMBYs blocked housing everywhere else

6 League of Women Voters members on this tour (1 left earlier). 2 process/manufacturing engineers, 2 teachers, a scientist (1 teacher was a science UG and taught math). Voting methods attracts a nerdy crowd.
DOJ arrived while we were there but didn't raise a ruckus (so far)

Last night, people were busy here. Ballots from vote centers started arriving at 9:30 PM (polls close at 8 pm). Ballot drop boxes are locked at 8 pm. Ballots are bagged, sealed, brought here with 2 election workers & LASD. Avalon (Catalina) & Palmdale ballots come by helicopter

Anyone can come watch ballot processing and counting in Los Angeles County through the glass windows and in a cordoned area. We got a special tour walking through the processing floor. Book that in advance. YU worked at a vote center until 10:30 PM yesterday & came for the tour. They have bike racks

Watching one of 22 optical scanners read ballots. A few minutes later, the ballot count update added another 120,000. Now over 2M ballots have been processed+counted in LA County (5.8 M registered voters).
On the processing floor, only green pens and gold pencils are allowed (invisible to scanner)

Not quoting the skeet for a non sequitur.
How many people real NWSL as National Weather Service Severe Storms Laboratory?
Just me?

My mistake. I thought San Mateo Medical Center was Kaiser. I didn't realize Kaiser and UCSF were over by the Caltrain station

What I'm reading today

Celebratory fireworks.
Not doing strenuous outdoor activity today.
Reading Russell Shorto's book, Amsterdam, on couch today. Maybe I will tackle a pile of paperwork later

Who is behind the New York Sun? And why am I suddenly getting getting their fake news?

The point of the tunnel was to avoid sending people into this hostile and dangerous intersection. Note the width and high speed slip lane.
Banning bikes from the tunnel sends people on bikes into a death trap.

It received funding from the state (Caltrans) and County (Metro).
Yet anti-bike Manhattan Beach was allowed to veto bike access
October 31, 2025 at 8:10 PM
This tunnel was recently shored up and widened at considerable expense to avoid the intersection of PCH and Rosecrans Ave. Yet bikes are banned. The sign says Bike Route, but Manhattan Beach installed a smaller Ends sign underneath.

Went to dinner & book club in downtown Manhattan Beach last night. Enjoy a sunset from a walk street with sidewalk dining. Also a coffee shop & a bookstore that share a courtyard.
Saw a recumbent etrike and a Cybertruck parked on the same block. Tell me again how handicapped people need to drive?

I'm glad that Rivian is going under. I don't want to "share the road" with 7,100 pound missiles with 1,025 hp.
They are literally killer vehicles (kid killed in school pickup line by one).
Rivian management irresponsibly kicked up the hp & torque from Gen 1 to Gen 2!

I attended the Redondo Beach Public Works Commission meeting last night via Zoom.
I learned that 500-600 people bike through the intersection of Beryl and Flagler daily, at the isthmus between North and South Redondo Beach. Twice as many cyclists turn into the HS parking lot as car drivers

Inflation is out of control!
Before Trumpflation, I paid $8.99 for a pair of Zongzi at 99 Ranch. Today, they are $10.99, a 22% increase

Trip souvenirs: book, fabric, lace+ribbon trim, buttons, pin, yarn.
Polar bear & plaid are shirt-weight poplin. Charcoal is RPL for cycling-compatible pants, digital print rayon challis just because I like beautiful things.
Book because I wanted to read deeper on Aus aboriginal painters

We spent 4 nights in the Congestion Pricing zone of Manhattan and thought it needs more decongestion pricing.
I wish LA had candidates with bold transit visions. Or even any vision beyond "just one more lane". Parking cars on public roads is using the roads.
