The worst sin about “that woman” for me is that with every twisted justification, indulging and even her insipid , flaccid prose

Her desperation to be someone’s good girl is barely masked by a haughty entitlement that doesn’t even begin to hide her inferiority complex

It’s so unsexy

The Colonial Governors knew that if you gave into the British on even a small tax there would be no end. The Democrats still have not figured this out.

One of my least favorite advice column genres: Dear Columnist, there's a child I'm not responsible for who keeps stealing from me, breaking my stuff, and hurting my kids/pets. They refuse to stop and their parents won't help.

Answer: it's your job to raise this child. Only a monster would refuse.

Watching this video gives you a pretty good feeling of what it's like to be a NCO in the military. A parade of younger people making you ask yourself if the next generation completely lacks the ability to read written instructions or if you're just old and out of touch.

when bluesky was in its very early days and I was making my first forays into posting a nice lady with a pig liked to talk Discworld with me all the time

one day, because of what happened here, she logged off completely

I started a Discworld quote thread because I missed chatting with her
Two years and two days ago, a woman delivered some chili to her new neighbors. Everyone was very happy and normal and there were no lasting effects.

I want to emphasize: I am in a line of work with an ethical duty. In addition, libraries in the US as the last social service standing that people know about experience desperate people looking for help.

Even when I am prohibited by policy or ethics from helping someone, I don’t just hang up.
WOW.

WOW wow wow.

Giving up the game, aren’t they?
But overwhelmingly, with the exception of that little Appalachian family church and the Black Churches, the Protestants asked if she was a member, or hung up on her.

One pastor told her, verbatim: “Benevolence is for our members.”

I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

i don't understand why a CEO would ever publicly downplay the significance of their product without getting raked over the coals by shareholders unless it's more valuable to them to give the impression that the product isn't being used. which means lack of trust in the police is harmful to business
He also downplays Ring's significance by saying that cell phone footage "is maybe even more of a source today" of evidence, which I don't buy, especially as someone whose watched what's happened w/ Ring in criminal trials over the last few years.

The Epstein scandal is a symptom of a larger disease

The capture and corruption of American politics and institutions of power has created a criminal, abusive, and degenerate class of elites who believe they are untouchable and don’t care who they hurt

one of the more frustrating things about AI shit is that it, unfortunately, represents how a lot of older types think the computer should work ("ask it questions, get answers, talk with it") and normal interaction with a computer makes them terrified they'll hit a "blow up everything" button

i think too of how those ancestry websites were designed in ways to be oh soothing and e-z to use, basically built from the ground up to get older computer users to relax while using it. so somebody who's afraid of looking at 'settings' in their phone will still send a company their DNA. wild shit.

This was the plan all along and why people like Thiel have inserted their cronies into key positions in the govt. They HATE the FDA and have for many years because they want to make drugs (mostly longevity ones) that don’t have to go through serious vetting. Here is the inevitable outcome:
FDA is approving a new form of nalmefene for “prophylaxis” for “opioid exposure,” specifically citing fentanyl.

“Fentanyl exposure” is not a thing. Fent has to be intentionally ingested to cause OD.

It’s being made by a “blockchain-focused digital finance company” whose “biotech arm” is only this…
