It listed every single ban, who banned them, how long the ban was, and linked to the post that got them banned(edited if it was REALLY bad), so all the way back to 2004 every single probation, suspension, ban, autoban is listed and who approved it.

[makes a network where literally everything is public] we don't have the capacity for infinite debates in public
Our policy has been not to comment on individual accounts. You end up having to litigate every case in public, and we don’t have the capacity for infinite debates in public.
Then there’s also the consequences such as the increased litigation and bad actors gaming your systems.

We are certainly facing a lot of systemic problems which should not be individualized, but at the same time, I believe that academics hold a certain amount of power, and it is worth being thoughtful about how we use that power, including the framing of our work.

When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?

If you have been framing your work as involving/in relation to "AI", what do you mean by "AI"? How would you describe your work without using that phrase?

I've been wondering if (or really when) we'd see purges & lockdowns of accounts critical of those in power. I guess this is an early answer to both questions (yes & now).
In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

If he doesn’t believe they’re real he’s fine
He just believes they are more important than any other personas and most feedback
Which isn’t about his grip on reality just his ego

I know this is a problematic statement but making up imaginary friends & making decisions based on what your imaginary friends say & believe is totally insane.
Like is this not borderline schizotypal behavior???

"What struck me most about the people who were burning down shops was how long they waited. The restraint, not the spontaneity... The moment they became anarchic was when they saw those tapes. But they waited for justice for almost a year... It didn't come."

I like STAR a bit better than RCV, mainly because you can give multiple candidates the same score if you've got more than one that aligns with your views, rather than just ranking the ones you like from best to worst
