This is something people are forgetting. The giant budget increase going to ICE isn't just for more personnel, it's to create a pool of loyal dipshits who know they're overpaid and will be out of a job and potentially prosecuted should Trump not succeed
Democrats need to realize ICE isn’t just—or even primarily—a mass deportation force.

ICE is also Trump’s most loyal internal security force which will be used to attack regime opponents and try to steal the election. They should defund his authoritarian capabilities.

I see this take around from time to time and totally disagree. ICE just murdered a woman standing up to them. No Kings is among the largest protests in history.

The complacency is coming from elites in media, business, universities, and the Democratic leadership

exactly. when he shot Good it caused the vehicle to accelerate out of control and smash into another car down the block. if the chud had actually been in the way he could have gotten himself killed
Underdiscussed how the admin's (plainly bogus) case rests on the idea that the officer's life was in danger while completely failing to explain how firing a gun point blank at the driver decreases that danger. Like that's probably the stupidest thing you could do

Rep. @AOC: I understand that Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, and I do not. That is a fundamental difference between Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.

the best antidote to blackpilling is remembering that every video you see of an ICE thug abusing their power was recorded by an American who volunteered to put themselves in harm's way for the sake of people they've likely never met and never will
/2 In light of that, I am in awe and deep respect of the people who are still showing up to monitor the ICE Gestapo, protect and defend their neighbors, do whatever they can to hold ICE to account and call out their lawlessness. What incredible bravery.

Stop falling for the “untrained” narrative.
NEW: Jonathan Ross is former National Guard and Border Patrol and has been part of ICE's SWAT equivalent, a team leader overseeing FBI, ATF, and IRS agents, and a firearms instructor, according to testimony obtained by WIRED. This is from @hudsongiles.bsky.social and me:
ICE Agent Who Reportedly Shot Renee Good Was a Firearms Trainer, Per Testimony
Jonathan Ross told a federal court in December about his professional background, including “hundreds” of encounters with drivers during enforcement actions, according to testimony obtained by WIRED.

I definitely have not gone this far but I have become significantly more paternalistic in some regards. Specifically with media. The media is more democratic and efficient than ever before in giving people what they want. It has been a disaster.
I will say that Trump has really shaken my belief in democracy. I'm not totally convinced that suffrage should be universal

I took a break from this place until I saw the venezuela news and came back. Looks like one of the big reasons hasn't changed. I honestly am not sure social media can work in any form given it's essence is to promote our most negative social tendencies
bluesky gamergate is furries chasing parker malloy off the site because she gently mocked a mod that gave boobs to a character in a video game marketed at children. that tracks.

I’m not naive about this, my formative political memories are (1) the Supreme Court handing its preferred presidential candidate an election and (2) that president doing illegal wars. But I find it pretty grim that the main lesson of American civics education is basically a joke.

what most people hate about LLMs is the capitalism of it. The stealing of ppls works, the men in charge talk about replacing all jobs with machines, its use to make slop, propaganda, and abusive content easily and at scale. Imagine the response if this technology rolled out in a slower/safer way
this is helpful. a good analogy is the difference between being anti-energy and anti-fossil fuels. anti-energy is not a thing, except it is, it’s called degrowth, and the left melted down online a few times over what a dead end that label was going to be
Hi, this is what you sound like

"this is a climate scientist bubble opinion. 7bn people use oil every week. I hate Exxon and Aramco and I wish they didn't exist, but billions of people buy oil from them every month. It's very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them"

The dumbest part of this is that the usage of American to refer to people living in what is now the United States predates the country by more than 100 years. British colonists were referred to as the American! USian is a break from a 400 year old lexical tradition
If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh

nyc being the greatest city in the country (possibly in the world) is both an undeniable fact and a load bearing belief that is literally keeping the subway tunnels from collapsing
Bluesky: “Obviously the housing crisis is the only reason anyone would choose to live outside of NYC”

a lot of falsehoods are getting repeated about b) by people who rightly believe a), and it doesn't help credibility.
a) The social harms of AI are vastly under-appreciated and go far beyond displacement of labor

b) The environmental harms of AI, though not trivial, are nevertheless small potatoes compared to many other industries like farming (and AI demand may even help accelerate electrical grid upgrades)

We should have automatic upzoning. Get rid of community feedback. If your block is SFH you’re allowed to do 3 story town houses. All town houses? You can build 4-6 story full lot apt buildings + ground lvl retail/office doesn’t count against your allotted floors. Then on and up from there.
the left nimby crashout bc Zohran actually wants to build more housing is genuinely so funny
