This is still the best recurring bit in tech journalism

3 things: a homework cheating machine, an unlicensed therapist, and an intern who lies a lot. A homework cheat, an unlicensed therapist, and a lying intern. A homework cheat, a therapist... are you getting it yet? These are not 3 separate services, this is one service, and we're calling it ChatGPT.
You know new tech is revolutionary when the people who make it are like, my job is to figure out what this is for and how to get people to pay for it.
As OpenAI expands in every direction, the new CEO of Applications is on a mission to make ChatGPT indispensable and lucrative.

If we don’t thoroughly investigate / prosecute the Adams administration at the state level, this is all going to happen again

Somebody just hacked Harvard’s alumni database, and I have a hard time thinking the timing is coincidental

One thing that bugs the hell out of me on trans youth sports discourse is that “how are you going to enforce it” is not the first, most obvious response anytime anyone brings it up, even for someone like Newsom/Buttigieg who for whatever reason feels compelled to sympathize with bigots in principle.
ending of a bbc article i just read. this is so fucking funny im sorry

my jaw is on the floor and yet im completely unsurprised. trump’s only political conviction is that he loves a handsome winner
A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

Trump - for all his whining - is still fond of New York City and if Zohran plays his cards right I suspect they can connect over that
Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

Welcome to the wild world of Chinese kids' smartwatches, where they socialize, date, shop, give out likes, buy likes, build bots for likes, and enter high society when they get over 800,000 likes.

Absolutely eye-opening. It's great to have Stephanie report this story in this week's Made in China.

Agree with this; as a general point of philosophy, once a section of roadway gets crowded enough - and certainly 5th Avenue in Midtown qualifies - car lanes become the lowest priority and buses/bikes/sidewalks should all predominate
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani should revive the DOT's plan to breathe life into Fifth Avenue with wider sidewalks, a protected bike lane, and a dedicated busway — which Mayors de Blasio and Adams shelved at the behest of powerful business interests.
Memo to Mamdani: Fifth Ave. Belongs to the People — Not the Ultra-Wealthy and Gridlock - Streetsblog New York City
Zohran Mamdani should revive a DOT plan to transform Fifth Avenue shelved by de Blasio and Adams at the behest of powerful corporate interests.

Episode 46: Sapiens

It's an ambitious goal to write the entire history of humanity in just 400 pages. It's even more ambitious to do it without reading any research.

The tradition of making statues of the Buddha (as opposed to imprints of his feet) is also apparently something they got from Greek statuary of their gods.
"Greeks living in Afghanistan were Buddhist 500 years before China and a thousand years before Southeast Asia" is one of those things that sounds made up but is in fact true

I think this overstates the pull of the suburbs and understates the push from the cities; people were living happily in cities for a long time and departed for the suburbs in large part because the conditions in cities were deteriorating.
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century
Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs

Regarding Zohran's role in this, I think he can admit that he discouraged Ossé from running - wanting to avoid having this fight this year - but say quite reasonably that since Jeffries waited until early voting started to make an endorsement, he's going to return the favor by doing likewise.
Can Chi Ossé beat Hakeem Jeffries?

“University costs as much as a house and the debt will chase you the rest of your life” is a uniquely American perversion, just like our staggeringly expensive health care
EVIL CHINA lets its old timers study anything they want, for free.

(Anyone else pays like only 1000 quid for university lmao)

Can confirm, 12yo has no interest in taking the subway on her own but is an enthusiastic bus rider (admittedly in part because the bus saves her like 6 avenue blocks of walking)

My takeaway from this is that if Zohran proposes adding 3-4 new SHSAT schools he could win re-election by Kim Jong Un numbers
On this Simon Bazelon popularist thing, I'd be surprised if their poll questions were well-designed, but even if they were, most of the areas where the Democrats are supposedly unpopular involve positions that most Democratic politicians don't hold, so problem solved I guess.

I'm more impressed than I can say that there's going to be a 12th edition of the @merriam-webster.com Collegiate Dictionary.
