counterpoint: we should maintain if not increase the hateful rhetoric bc he is in fact a murderer
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

Palestine is not a single issue. If a politician supports the use of overwhelming violence against a civilian population abroad, they’re telling you what they think is acceptable to use against you at home.

unfortunately this nearly prophetic post was blindsided by the democrats' "dont take the bait" campaign, which has thus far been successful at protecting not only the gestapo, but the reich itself
I will repeat: as soon as this administration shoots a middle aged white mom at a protest, they are all dead men, and they don't even realize it.

The first recorded code of laws enforced slavery. You can't use that as an example of laws existing to protect the weak, goddamn.
I like to ask liberals "why should I follow the law?" and then query their responses until they get mad at me because they end up essentially justifying state tyranny and can't work out why.

ok but they won't

ICE officers won't follow orders they don't ideologically like

And elected Dems have not yet shown evidence of any spine to do what is necessary: punish these people.

you’re already ahead. stay with it. minneapolis stripped these forces of legitimacy (a battle other cities won’t have to repeat). remember they are completely outmanned. their only real advantage is their organizational capacity. out-organize them & the illusion of control will collapse.
I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.

You are doing the right thing. It sucks to be under siege but you are under siege. And you won't be free while these law enforcement agencies continue to exist.

if only there had been a movement and momentum several years ago to downsize police budgets, clear out the white supremacists and de-militarize local law enforcement
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

it is impossible for mayors or cops to learn positive lessons about protest response because they all have two immovable beliefs:

1. it is evil and childish to hold police officers accountable for violent acts

2. cops must be present at all times during protests
The lesson Frey and Walz were supposed to learn in 2020 was that sending riot police to a peaceful protest creates a confrontation that results in some dipshit cops shooting people in the eye with a gas canister which then we have to goddamn pay for in settlements while also our city burns.
