Sure, probably, but the actual setup is a massive pain in the ass, even if you're the kind of guy who regularly works with that side of software. And then the onus would always be on me to acquire and stream, which is annoying, and if I was gone then my friends couldn't watch stuff together.

OK, so what's the alternative to Discord for watching movies with the friend group? Slack??
Jellyfin and Stoat have barriers to entry that are much too high, like there's zero chance I am getting any friends to install and troubleshoot those.

repetitive dialogue, simple language, and over explaining to the viewer, because they're only half paying attention and will not know what's happening otherwise. The books follow the same patterns, designed for people with short attention spans. Not great, not for me.

RIP to new authors who might meet my standards but who I won't discover without a strong recommendation from someone I trust, because I choose to avoid overly decorated books due to the percentage that are, in my experience, from booktok or of a comparable quality.

Yeah, I'm familiar with gold edged books. I've even read Peter Darling by Austin Chant, then picked up the Rainbow Crate edition with painted edges--because I already knew the book was good. In the wild jungle of a store, it's a red flag: every time I've pawed through one unknown, it's terrible.

I'm so serious about the Booktok thing btw. If I see painted edges on that novel, I know it's hot garbage made to look good as a prop for pics n vids. Just the absolute worst euphony and disrespect for the reader's intelligence, having charitably gone through like .5 editors. I'm in hell.

I do think Booktok and, like, the general downtrend in people reading anything but AI summaries of Cliffnotes has led to the most mind-numbingly stupid prose flooding the romance and fantasy sections, rendering those areas of book stores unusable to me...but like...c'mon, man. It's not Sex Ed.

Felt so vindicated by Youtuber discussing the steep decline in the quality of fantasy novels within the past 10-15 years, right up until she started talking about how the romance and kinks were "problematic", as if erotic novelists are obligated to educate young girls. Shut da hell up!!!

I'm trying not to imply the average behavior I see between strangers online feels ableist, but it's hard not to notice the dissonance between the push for neurodivergent acceptance and accommodations from the same people who go from 0 to 100 fast if someone is mildly annoying in their mentions...

I feel like I don't know how to talk to people online anymore. It feels like trying to engage sincerely and sympathetically just aggros them for reasons beyond my comprehension. Like they're conditioned to assume I'm being condescending instead of trying to relate and be kind. Internet feels lonely.
