I have a modest proposal:

Since Berkshire also owns the BNSF railway, howsabout they cede ownership of the rails in lieu of payment to these western states if the public is going to keep picking up their tab.

Deal?
It’s increasingly clear Berkshire’s strategy to keep PacifiCorp solvent in face of wildfire lawsuits is to have its lobbyists pressure state lawmakers into providing liability limits (at ratepayer expense) rather than dipping into Berkshire’s extraordinary profits

S&P downgrades PacifiCorp to lowest investment-grade rating - Portland Business Journal
PacifiCorp last week described a cascade of financial and operational challenges it could face if its credit were to fall below investment grade. It's now a step closer to that happening.

Dick Durbin's job title in the Senate is Minority Whip. His job is to literally "whip votes" to the party position. He is not just leadership, but literally the one person in the entire caucus whose role is to get people to not vote the way he did.

And Dems expect people to just "move on?"

Steve Inskeep: You think the Republicans voting with you here will not only agree to these measures, but actually try to do something if the administration ignores them?

Sen Cortez Masto: If they go back on their word, then the American public will know where the Republicans stand.

If you’re proposing taxes as a savvy pundit solution for Democratic political woes and it’s taxing poor people instead of billionaires, you might be a fucking idiot.
Trying to win over anti-immigrant voters with stuff like this is so dumb.

Immigrants already pay more into social security than they collect, but voters don’t believe it. Immigrants are already limited on federal benefits, voters don’t believe it. This isn’t going to change anything but help Trump!

This sounds familiar. Lol.
In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

Funny how in one version (right) precinct 2 is a Community of Common Interest with rural south county, but in the other version (left) precinct 5 is deemed that instead.

The map at left is hilariously gerrymandered, right side only less so, but if you needed a specific tell, that’s it.
Here are the maps that the District Mapping Advisory Committee is considering sending to the County Commissioners under guidelines they set. This will result in elections where no Commissioner is elected at large in our county of 200k people. Please weigh in with your thoughts to dmac@deschutes.org.

Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

🚨 Tim Kaine is saying the quiet part out loud - underscoring why anyone shouldn't be satisfied with any of the "no" statements or posts from Dem Senators.

If Dem Senators are truly disgusted with this save they should be calling on #SurrenderSchumer to step aside as the Leader immediately.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

My favorite genre of political reporting is “where are they now” stories.

Knows what happens when a politician loses an election?

They’re fine! They’re still rich and comfortable.

Heads *should* roll when leadership fails.
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Will House Republicans vote to accept the Senate deal? If they defect, how many Dems will vote to make up the difference. (Answer: as many Dems as it takes, Jeffries will see to this. While publicly "no," he'll make the plan work.)

We know this because he told us.

The reality is the government was shut down the first day Trump entered office. We just didn't talk about it that way.

The only real leverage Dems had is on appropriations. Schumer screwed that up in February/March for FY 26. It imperiled his political support.
