“So that’s not an immediate no?” I ask.
“It is not,” Joey answers, and for some reason I nearly jump out of my seat in excitement. “It’s also not a yes either! There’s still a lot of details that need to be fleshed out first, and at the first sign of fuckery, we’re out! Do you understand?”
“Perfectly, although I’m not entirely sure on what ‘fuckery’ would entail exactly,” Rondu comments.
“I’ll tell you later,” Driona says and stands up off of the couch, in which she has created a sizeable divot.
“I still have your box communicator thingy, I’ll let you know when we’re available for a tour of these facilities, should be a week after we get back to our homes to move some things around. And you!” Joey says, pointing to me.
“Who, me?”
“Yes, you! Day after tomorrow, dinner at our house! No blowing it off this time! We have things that need discussing!”
“I’m making pot pie!” Warren says cheerfully, and my mouth instantly starts to water. Cynthia’s eyes roll, but she has half a smile plastered on her face as she does so.
“Well twist my rubber arm why don’t you?” I say and stand up off of my chair.
As first meetings go, this could have gone worse…

Brayker scowled, her eyes locked on Krutch. “Fine,” she said. “And you’re in luck. We executed our last prisoner earlier this week. Whole stockade just for you, Leeroy.”
“Lucky me.”
“I expect,” Escudo said, “even when the storm passes, travel will be an issue for at least a few days. That won’t be a problem, will it?”
“Not at all. We got plenty of supplies, so feel free to hunker down. As for Leeroy here, I think the troops will be excited to know we have such a big name in our midst. In fact, I don’t think there’s a man or woman here that doesn’t have a Leeroy story or know someone who does.” She turned to Krutch, looked him in the eye, and flashed a toothy grin. “You ain’t going nowhere, little man.”
“Neat.”

For a time, they walked in silence. The lord could only assume that she was leading him to a place where they could speak uninterrupted. After a safe distance, she turned off into a room that Tokonus remembered far too well – Rodderick's old study. The room had long since been cleaned and organized, and yet the smell of blood haunted Tokonus, although he knew it wasn’t truly there.

“I assume your mind has been churning or you wouldn’t have brought me in here, so what have you figured out,” Tokonus asked as cooly as he could.

“I do not think that [redacted] is lying... and as much as I hate to say it, I think that we should take up his offer.” Othelia shuffled in place; it was hard to tell if she was on board with her own idea. When her eyes locked with his, it was almost as if she could read his thoughts and had prepared a suitable defense. “I haven’t gone soft; I don’t think that we should accept unconditionally, but [redacted] is an asset and as long as [redacted] doesn’t prove to be a liability then taking them on is worth the risk.”

“That’s not good enough,” Tokonus countered, shaking his head. “There is a reason you believe him and I would like to know why. You have to be one of the most distrusting and calculating people that I know, for you to take the Abysmal’s words at face value does not add up.”

I think it's valuable to push yourself. There's a lot to learn about skill set and where you are as a writer and it'll certainly help when you enter that stage in a writing career when you must meet a deadline.

In places without November holidays, I think it's not a bad idea, though if school is in your life in any capacity, it does add to the difficulty. January might be a better month for this kind of thing, or any month where there's no big event to prepare for.

November #writing challenges are odd beasts, but it depends on where you are in the world. In New Zealand, it's spring! We're looking for excuses to get out of the house. NaNo gave us that excuse. Got to a WriteIn & connect with other #writers. But sadly, we need other excuses now.

I think writing challenges are fun, but I never take them too seriously. I don’t care much about starting a new project, finishing a project, or hitting a specific target word count. Progress is progress, but I find tracking my work count & daily writing streak very motivating.

I'd decided on October 31 to try again this year. I'm currently at 38,000 words on a trad vampire horror story.

He squinted, pretending to think it over. His eyes gleamed in that Kazuo-ish way that made you feel like he knew exactly who he was and exactly who you were and exactly how to come out on top no matter what. It was his card-playing look. Everyone always hated playing cards with Kazuo. He loved it that they hated it.
“Alright, Noah.” He stroked his chin. “How about this? You go in there, mm, ten paces? And I’ll let you keep the Nwissy for a week.”
“Five paces, and I keep the Nwissy for good.”
He winced. “Oh now, Noah. If you’re going to be that way about it, we can just forget it. I don’t care about you going in there that much.”
“You guys!” Jon growled. “I really don’t think anyone should be—!”
“Alright, fine,” I backpedaled. “How about I go in... twelve paces, and you let me keep the Nwissy for... a month?”
“Deal!” We shook on it.

Most of the undead had been silenced and dispatched during the carnage of the battle. In those moments of observing Bedlam, I noticed the animated bodies did not bleed red. It was black. I thought nothing of it originally, assuming it was the necromancy festering within their bodies over countless days, weeks, or possibly months. But as the moments continued to pass, there was a foul, sulfurous smell overtaking the salty odor of the sea. It was not corruption swimming in their maligned bodies; it was oil. The oil had been seeping out and covering the bodies of Krale, Paladins, and the entirety of our ship’s deck.

A small chuckle, echoed through cramped surroundings, rose from the small device. “I’d advise against antagonizing your captain in the very first minute of a week-long spike jump,” Diodorus said from the ship’s bowels. “Doubly so when she’s also the only doctor on board.”

What’s your “I’d have written more, but…” story?

I’d have written more but I’m working on a doctor’s report, which requires a fair degree of research to be plausible. To make matters worse, it probably won’t appear in the final manuscript, but I need to complete it for reference at least.
