Leaning over the edge, she could see the dim green light bobbing down below, swaying back and forth with the movement of the rope. Finally, the creaking stopped. “Hey, Fox!” Av’ry’s voice drifted up from the pit. “Next time we should bring a longer rope.” “Can you make it?” she called down. “Yeah. But getting back up is going to be interesting.” “We’ll figure something out. Just go for it.” The rope swung wildly for an instant, then she heard a grunt, followed by a crash and emphatic cursing. “Alright!” Av’ry shouted. “Your turn. And don’t worry, I cleared some debris out of the way for you.” “Did you do it with your face?” “Just get down here,” he snapped. Fox wrapped the rope around her leg and slipped over the edge.

I used Movement a lot... in spoiler context, so I just went with the Synonym "Gesture".

Stolas cut off the tanuki with a smile. "I'm here on a different sort of business. Let's talk over tea." Stolas gestured for them to follow them into the cabin as if he was inviting them into his own home. Drilltooth and Tycho shared a confused look, then shrugged at each other. "Oh and you don't have to break out the extra special tea. Just some honeyed black tea will be perfect for me." Stolas suddenly added, as he stood aside for the tanuki to open the door. He froze at the comment, then remembered who was giving the request. "That's starting to get a bit creepy." Tycho blurted out unintentionally, then quickly went to speak, but the owl shook his head. "My apologies, I'm just so used to seeing the future..." Stolas slightly bowed, then smiled brightly again. "Plus-" Stolas caught himself and chuckled. "Nah the anticipation just has me so giddy! I can barely contain myself!" Stolas cleared his throat, composing himself as Drilltooth went in passing another look to Tycho who shrugged. "Don't worry, I'll behave myself." Stolas noted as he followed the squirrel in. Once the group were set at the table and some small talk had gone on, finally the Tea began to whistle. Tycho took the kettle off the stove, pouring Stolas' cup first at the counter. "So... what was that pressing matter you wanted to discuss with..." Drilltooth paused as Tycho poured another cup, "Just two sugars for me." The squirrel requested, and Tycho carefully placed two lumps in the tea. Then prepared his own cup. "Both of us?" Drilltooth asked as Tycho set two lumps of sugar in the squirrel's cup. "Give Tycho a second." Stolas requested, Tycho looked over his shoulder to the owl. "I can work and listen." He noted, "Yes, you can. But if I tell you now you'll break a very lovely tea set, and I don't want that." Drilltooth perked up at that, "What-?! What could possibly say that'd elicit a reaction like that!?" Drilltooth questioned as Tycho brought the tea to the table.

When he was 7, Tim almost died in a fire, and he has never talked to anyone about it, until now.

This scene was the culmination of the most difficult and most rewarding writing I have ever done. It took me a month to get through it.

“How long were you in the hospital?” Kieran asked. “About six weeks. My mom came home just as it happened, otherwise I probably would have died and the house would have burned down. As it was,” he smiled ruefully, “it wasn’t the burns, it was the infections afterwards that kept me in. The grafts wouldn’t take right, I almost lost my hand, and I had to do physical therapy for years to get the full range of movement back." He rubbed the back of his hand. “I don’t have much feeling in it either.” “Is that why you do that flexing thing?" Gideon held up his own hand and moved it back, forth, side, side. “Yeah, it’s a nervous habit now." Tim fell silent. He felt emptied out, wiped like he’d just run a 5K. Now that he’d finished, he really didn’t know what would happen. Suddenly Vee stood up and walked over to him, the light behind her obscuring her face. She stopped in front of him and held out her hands. Tim hesitated, then took them and she pulled him to his feet. As he stood, the light shifted on her face and he noticed the tracks of tears on her cheeks. She looked up at him, smiled, and threw her arms around his neck. “Bravest. Thing. Ever,” she whispered in his ear.

The span of the break was little greater than Tamlin’s height, but as they descended farther, circling the glass pillar, it held no more movement. Their lanterns pushed back the darkness only as far as the next turn of the circling ramp. As they went, Tamlin kept one eye turned back over his shoulder, but nothing approached them from behind. The way had been sealed.

The back story again. Casey, inspired by Daryl's Mars film, displays the talent for which she will one day be famous.

Casey’s film was called, “Whistle and I'll Come” and was based on a short story by her favourite author, MR James. It's about a boy who steals a whistle from an antique shop and when he blows the whistle he starts being stalked by something. On the one hand it had all the amateurish charm of a film made by ten year olds, but, like her Halloween decorations, it was disturbing and, in the final scene, genuinely scary. The stalker, always seen in the distance behind Daryl, is a weird figure that flits around in an inhuman capering movement and always disappears or collapses into a pile of rags when Daryl looks around. It was an elaborate rod puppet devised by Casey and operated by her and Melissa, Daryl's girlfriend who had been pressed into helping out.
