No one has ever found Santa's workshop because they're looking in the wrong place. Santa's workshop is in Antarctica, NOT the Artic Circle. I'm not crazy, honest. I have solid scientific reasoning for my conclusions. #Christmas #SantaClaus #SantasWorkshop #MondayBlog
The North Pole is in Antarctica…
There is a reason no one has ever found Santa's workshop. It's because everyone has been looking in the wrong place. The North Pole is really in Antarctica.

In case I don't get a chance to say so over the next few weeks, ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!
I'll be taking time off from the world and spending time with loved ones. So, have a safe and restful break, peeps!

Are you curious to know what my PhD is actually in? Well, my research was on how we can remove the "twinkle" from the stars. #BlastFromThePast #Sciene #astronomy #BlogFlashback
Removing the twinkle of stars
Most people enjoy the twinkling stars, but twinkling stars are a nightmare for astronomers, blurring images and diminishing the science quality of telescopes.

For me, #writing is just one of the many ways that I process my emotions, and get the negative ones out of my system. I can tell what mood I was in when I wrote a passage simply by the level of violence in it. #MondayBlogs #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

- It's okay to rest and take breaks from writing.
- You're still a creative even when you're not writing.
- We as a society HAVE to create more. We're consuming too much but creating. I don't mean specific people on here but people at large. The world NEEDS our stories.
#pretendpanel, daaaaaamn, you really came out to answer last weekend's questions! I'm super interesting to see what you say to this...

YES! I refuse to "write to market". By the time I have a projects ready to go to market, the market has changed. I won't chase trends. Instead, I write the fiction that I wish I could read... and I write the nonfiction that I know fills a gap in the knowledge pool. #PretendPanel #WriteSky

In 2026, I want to improve my "writing efficiency", shortening the time it takes to go from concept to shareable manuscript. I have the beta reader to publishable state finely honed, but it still takes a long time to get the ideas into a state ready for beta readers. #PretendPanel #AmWriting
#pretendpanel, I have a whole lot to catch up on still from yesterday, but while I do that, let me know...

When you're plotting a new mystery and thinking, okay, this absolutely super-annoying character that's of course in no way similar in the slightest to anyone in real life of course not why would you ask that--should they be the dead body, or the murderer who faces justice in the end?

In a discussion about the writing process (in a room full of #writers), Witi Ihimaera spoke in detail about his editing process.

"Go as far as you can... then go back to the previous draft where it wasn't perfect, because that is your true voice."

#PretendPanel #WriteSky #WritingCommunity
It will never be perfect. You can read and reread and re-edit but there will always be something to fix. You just have to let go after a certain point.

#PretendPanel 12/12:

This has been a year of intense change for me, and I'm not sure there's a single lesson to take from it. But I think one thing I learned is that the part of me that writes is the part of me that refuses to give in to despair, and that part of me is worth fighting for.

My biggest lesson from my #writing (and career) in 2025 is that I have to put my mental (and physical) health first. Don't do anything that isn't right for "me". And follow my instincts. It's things that I consciously know, but the subconscious is finally catching up. #PretendPanel #WriteSky

Who would have guessed that a course on writing male voices would have led to a monochromatic setting? #Books #SciFi #Thriller
The war on disease was a war on color (Excerpt from ‘Dancing in the Purple Rain’ included)
Sometimes, the best ideas for world-building and our novel settings come from external sources. But I never thought that a course on writing male voices as a female writer would lead to thoughts and ideas that play with color.

The oddest of details will find our manuscripts. And we really do draw on our personal memories. For me, it was the pink sanitation fluid from my time at working at a dairy factory that found my novel Dancing in the Purple Rain.

I know firsthand the desire to want to see your writing out in the wild, published. BUT it's a mistake to rush the process. Yet, I see writers do it all the time. There is a reason for why the process exists.

By all means, rush the process.
Rushing the publication process is so tempting, but a BIG mistake. Here is just a few of the flavors of the rush-the-process beast.

Christmas doesn't come from a store. It never has. It comes from the love of those around us. I learned this as a child. And when I learned the truth behind the memory (as an adult), it made the lesson even more precious. #Holidays #MondayBlogs

Predicting what the world would look like… (Excerpt from ‘Dancing in the Purple Rain’ included)
A deadly internet challenge and a global pandemic were what I needed to allow the full story to form in my head. However, I wanted to distance my story from the events of 2020. Shifting the story into the future provided challenges of its own.

We can pick any aspect of the process, and there was a challenge to face. But the most frustrating (on-going) challenge is trying to stay positive in the face of the dwindling finances and people (in the US) saying, "It only costs...", not understanding exchange rates. GAH! #PretendPanel #WriteSky

This sounds so exciting.
1) Love me a structure book
2) I always fear my antagonists are the weakest part, so thinking through their part in the story in a structural way sounds like such a good way to counter that.
