In Something Familiar (and To Break A Curse, presumably), only familiars & humans born with the ability to sense magical energy can wield magic & learn to cast spells.
HOWEVER, many enchanted items can be used by anyone regardless of magical ability if they know how to activate them.

In Sidetracked, there was a lot of focus on eye color bc it’s the easiest way to differentiate humans from immortals (and Jayde is lowkey obsessed with their eye colors lol). After that, hair color/style, clothing, height, & distinguishing features. The most obvious things, I guess. 😅

yeah, especially with the Sidetracked & Something Familiar characters. Those guys literally grew up with me. A lot of myself & my experiences ended in them & their stories, albeit quite exaggerated at times.

I always know the main cast of my stories better than anyone else ever possibly could. Some details I understand intimately are only revealed or alluded to through subtext that readers might miss. Plenty is revealed outright but perhaps not enough to fully grasp everyone’s deeper motivations.

I always know the main cast of my stories better than anyone else ever possibly could. Some details I understand intimately are only revealed or alluded to through subtext that readers might miss. Plenty is revealed outright but perhaps not enough to fully grasp everyone’s deeper motivations.
