State media when the economy is good and inflation is definitely under control:
Fox guest on how to save money during the holidays:

"Remember, adults don't need gifts. Focus on the people in your life who are aged 3 to 18. Grandma doesn't need slippers. If they don't live by you, don't get them a gift."

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Trump’s Government Of Spite: Political Performance Art For Assholes
A couple weeks ago, as hundreds of thousands of Americans took to the streets in what may have been the largest single day of protest in U.S. history, the President of the United States responded by… posting a video of himself literally dumping shit on citizens. Not a policy response. Not an attempt at dialogue. Not even a coherent defense of whatever decisions prompted the protests.

Basically all US policy is at this point about indulging Trump’s irrational obsessions, petty grudges, and corrupt grifts, and then taking secondary and tertiary measures to mask the consequences of those policies.
lol, great, so we're now subsidizing Argentine ranchers at the expense of American ranchers. Seems politically sustainable, no questions from me.

A few people in colonial costumes complaining about immigrants was novel to NYT editors. Their friends don't do that. A running narrative would be exciting, especially after Obama won big.

Millions rallying against Trump's authoritarian abuses? Bor-ring. NYT editors have heard that argument before.
Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

I still think it's worth highlighting the fact that, in response to the No Kings protests, the right's unified response seems to be literally portraying Trump as King. Both because of sheer defiant contrarianism and because they truly desire him to be their King. No more masks, no more Kings.

we are not having a lot of luck with institutional pushback - everyone who does is fired and replaced

we are definitely not having any luck with “norms”

what we are having luck with is ordinary people looking at the incompetent bullshit put in front of them and going “absolutely not”
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro lost 3x in a closely watched case that arose during the transfer of detainees to ICE outside of the D.C. jail.

This is the remarkable thing. We’re seeing an extraordinary level of popular mobilization. The press are less interested than they were in a dozen dudes throwing tea bags at local car dealerships, & elected Dems don’t seem to have any plan to harness it beyond using it as hook to beg for another $5.
You’re right, but it’s not hard to see how an anti-Trump protest movement that turns out nearly 2% of the US population is both historically notable and has massive potential energy, if highlighted and harnessed by leaders and institutions instead of largely avoided by them
you should consider how you framed things; did no Kings turn out more than the civil rights movement? mostly likely. it being more historically notable remains yet to be seen.

Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

It's wild that when Trump talks about how they're getting rid of Democrat Programs and keeping Republican Programs he means "public health" and "Sicario Fantasy Camp: Chicagoland." Full polarization, to the point where anything aimed at keeping people alive or alleviating suffering is woke bullshit.
Ugh... This study has existed for decades, providing valuable health data for all sorts of topics and publications. This is just more awful news. 🛟😷 Sociology medsky

"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.
Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

They don't want Dem votes because they need them to keep going on a tyrannical crime spree. It's because they're useful to pretend it's all normal and legal, that it's something other than a tyrannical crime spree. They want the appearance of legitimacy. Nothing is worth giving that to them.

This denunciation of "elites" comes from a former New York Times columnist and current Atlantic staff writer who ventriloquizes low-income Black communities in the District instead of asking them how they actually feel about Trump's invasion. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Final vote. 50-50. VP breaks the tie.

One single GOP Senator could have stopped this abomination. Saved millions of parents from watching their child go hungry. Saved the lives destroyed when Medicaid disappears.

They will all live forever with the horror of this bill.
