Very good thread.
More than anything else, powerful men - like the ones who run the NYT - believe in the legitimacy of power itself. Because if it isn’t legitimate, they have to start asking hard questions about the world and themselves.

The correspondence between a NYT reporter & Epstein is extraordinary. But the NYT also has questions to answer: it fired him for soliciting a donation from Epstein. Did it not conduct any sort of investigation? Or did it just decide to not make public?

Who made the choice at the Times to ignore the info Landon had that he stated he shared with other Times reporters?
The Times literally pulled their top Clinton reporter off the beat to join several other reporters to pore through the mind-numbing trivia from John Podesta's inbox, resulting in zero stories of any substantive or prurient interest

Ken White and other have stated it is just a standard procedural decision for appellate reasons. I don't think she is trying to aid Trump at all. Probably following something called "rule of law".

Senate GOP are doing this as if some pretty stunning elections never happened this week, so it's even worse. They are reacting to the elections in the worst possible way, lashing themselves even closer to Trump and regular GOP cruelty.
So to cap their horrible week, Senate Republicans refused a deal to reopen the government in exchange for just helping people with health insurance and now the president wants the Supreme Court to say he doesn’t have to obey the law and feed the hungry.
Amazing.

This is perhaps pedantic, but in a sign of how vapid and superficial these folks' engagement with antiquity is, they're giving a 'Bellator' award with a Latin name - a word the Romans rarely ever apply to their own (or Greek) soldiers - featuring the image of a Greek helmet the Romans didn't use.
