It's weird that the only two options are "didn't want accountability in any way" or "was hellbent on accountability" rather than "didn't have the numbers to convict".
Also, I always think it’s so weird when people act like this is proof that Pelosi was hellbent on accountability. It’s just proof she was Speaker during a Trump presidency. She never considered, for instance, seriously impeaching Bush. It’s literally just a measure of how bad Trump is

Pelosi only impeached Trump - both times - under overwhelming pressure from her caucus and after working hard to find any alternative that would let her avoid the whole thing. Often those alternatives were wildly inappropriate, even bizarre.

Your average person should not be expected to regularly look through the Congressional record to find out what big pieces of legislation are being considered and what's going on with them. That's an extremely valuable thing for national reporters to cover.

I'd go as far as to say that a third impeachment, unless you're absolutely sure you have the votes in the Senate to convict him, would be actively counterproductive and solidify impeachment in people's minds as a completely meaningless finger wag.

Maybe, this is plausible, but also congressmen know as well as we do that impeachment is a dead letter and so some are probably worried about being accused of impeachment-as-empty-messaging, or breaking campaign promises from people who don’t know impeachment ≠ removal.
I think leaving aside whether it's a good strategic idea the reason Dem leaders don't want to talk impeachment isn't because it's not popular in the country, it's because they're worried it's not popular *in a bunch of competitive congressional seats that voted for Trump in 2024*
