Blue State elected leaders need to really start talking about building, economic, and mutual aid blocks now that it’s clear the federal government is going to defund any state that is not capitulating.

Taxes need to be collected only by the states and the federal government must be left to rot.

This is bad, but also vital to remember: it’s an EO.

It’s not a new law. It’s just instructions to his appointees. Who remain constrained by the Fed criminal code.

And, to preempt the doomers:

Those.
Laws.
Are.
Holding.

That’s why Trump’s losing it over Comey in EDVA.

I am just going to say this again bluntly: Blue states are going to need to become the federal government. Mutual aid compacts, mutual defense compacts, healthcare, taxes, trade the whole deal. Literally create a new system outside of the fascist federal system.

Organize offline, build hard power. Create print collectives, scale regional mutual aid networks, begin creating federated community defense, prepare to weather the worst economic cycle in history and outlast surveillance capitalism. They will destroy themselves and try to bring us with them.
Genuine question: what ideas do people have for real theories of change to fight surveillance in this moment.

Like, it's not like you can run a "tell Palantir to stop being Palantir" campaign or a "Tell ICE to stop being fucking fascists" campaign.

What is actionable, winnable? Where do we focus?

The D party is not a highly centralized entity. People like Schumer and Pelosi have the power they do because of the fundraising potential of their constituents. They can use those funds to put their finger on the scale of elections like this using superpacs.

This is 100% my experience.

And these folks think that leftist politics is some amalgam of whatever fox hates and some bastardized hr politics. They don’t understand new or old left approaches. Now that they are starting to stew in the tiktok cesspool and rotting their brains faster than before
In my darker moments, I start to worry that what we’re seeing writ large here is an era when plenty of people want to identify as “leftists” but grew up marinating in the Fox News Cinematic Universe and all of their priors are grounded there.

Years ago, Jim Henley defined the proper approach perfectly: Eliminate the shackles before you eliminate the crutches. Eliminate all corporate welfare before you start on welfare for the poor. Cut taxes from the bottom up by raising the amount of income exempted, instead of cutting the top rates 1/?
Back in my Cato days I’d say stuff like “If you’re going to dismantle the government, figure out how to do it without hurting people. That should be your research program.”

Now we’re getting the mean, stupid, deadly approach instead, wrecking all credibility for future small government ideas.
