huh, the titular "Shunned House" from Lovecraft's story still stands - and it looks like it's been fixed up quite a bit! I guess exorcising the fungus vampire in the basement did the trick

im just some woman on the internet but imo its probably bad to base your economy almost entirely on a gambling ring where rich (ie extremely, willfully stupid) people bet on what stuff is worth until the round finally ends bc some of their checks start bouncing

No federal reps or senators can be recalled anywhere

You cannot have a socialist government or a socialist economic policy in a capitalist society. That is not even like trying to run Apple software on a PC. It's more like like trying to make toast in a starling.

Most of the waste and distortion of capitalism results from artificial abundance of material resources, and artificial scarcity of immaterial resources.
Just removing all subsidies to irrigation water, and making long-haul trucks pay the full cost of roadbed damage via weight-distance tolls, would massively decarbonize and relocalize US agriculture.
this I think is pretty easy if you just price water correctly

Target his support in the Senate for pressure. but just as importantly, target his friends.

Especially individual donors, small business donors, and community org allies.

Make it toxic to be caught in a picture with him.
Instead of targeting Schumer directly maybe target the people underpinning his support. This is a list of Senators up for re-election next year (I have not fact checked at all, I'm tipsy googling)

I mean they do fear the base, which is why people who are not in the immediate line of fire didn't vote for this. They just don't think there's a large splash zone for that rage or that it will last until they're on the block
Dem pols really have 0 fear of their base and that kinda has to change.

If nothing else, the fact that it was exactly eight of them is pretty fishy
I know this sounds mean but if you think that this is a coincidence you're more than a bit of a mark. If Kaine had been up next year, it would have been Warner, if Slotkin was retiring, Peters, etc.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

i think "Trump learns he can get things out of the legislature by threatening to starve Americans" is a giant political boon for Democrats honestly. like how do we think he is going to employ that lesson in future that does not have dire electoral consequences?
like this is basically it, the melts melted under pressure

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

🚨 Tim Kaine is saying the quiet part out loud - underscoring why anyone shouldn't be satisfied with any of the "no" statements or posts from Dem Senators.

If Dem Senators are truly disgusted with this save they should be calling on #SurrenderSchumer to step aside as the Leader immediately.

Simultaneously think that a lot of those were scared out of voting for the CR for fear of a primary challenge (which is good) but that it's bad for members to hide behind the voters of others, if you wanted it passed you shoulda voted for it

Shit like this is why I've loathed the word "entrepreneur" ever since Gingrich and Kemp started throwing it around in the 90s
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"
