I hadn't seen anyone explain exactly why Trump withholding SNAP funds is illegal until @brycecovert.bsky.social did it for us.
Short version: benefits must go to all eligible applicants, & the reserve fund must be used when appropriations expire to keep the program operating.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.
I glanced down at the message.
“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.
So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

One of the biggest failings of 2024 was the way media reported that People Are Voting For Trump Because Of Inflation And The Economy and almost never pointed out that a Trump presidency was clearly going to make inflation and the economy worse
I do wonder when media outlets will get interested in ballooning everyday costs. My family's grocery bill has exploded over the past six months and - unlike when a Democrat is president - this is a non-story.

They can rebrand all they want. The facts are the facts. They screwed working people to help their billionaire and corporate donors.

Part of the beauty of this —and what makes it stand out from literally every other thing you see in official political communication, from any party—is that it shows someone appreciating without any shred of condescension the dignity of this person's life and the value of her work
Meet Shakira. Ten years ago, she was living in a shelter with her three kids, working at a non-union hotel.
Now she's a member of HTC.
Unions are how working people can build a dignified life. But in a city as expensive as ours, they need local government on their side.

Trump's nominee for BLS commissioner, EJ Antoni, is disastrously terrible. He's a 1200%, 1300% maybe 1400% in-the-tank Trumper, with few credentials beyond a history of misrepresenting or misunderstanding economic statistics. He has shown no commitment to truth
