It’s my first day at @jdforward! Where inspiring stories like this one about a growing congregation in South Philly are all in a day’s work.
A Millennial rabbi built a synagogue where others have closed. Her maverick ideas are becoming a model.
An Orthodox synagogue led by a woman is thriving in South Philly. With no dues and an inclusive design, the Shtiebel offers a new model.

remembering when my mom worked at the ADL in the early 2000s when I was a kid and when I visited her office we talked about a project to specifically combat anti-Haitian hate crimes
From @arnorosenfeld.bsky.social, a deeply reported look at how the ADL detached from civil rights organizations allied in fighting anti-semitism, under pressure from the right. Which now leaves it poorly equipped to build coalitions essential keeping Jews connected to other groups.
The ADL’s turn away from civil rights was years in the making — Oct. 7 accelerated it
The ADL has focused mostly on antisemitism since Oct. 7, but the move away from historic civil rights work began long before.

I'm going through old notebooks @thecity.nyc and found a 2019 interview with now-City Council Speaker Julie Menin, when she led NYC census outreach. She asked New Yorkers to "send a message to the Trump administration" on its push to not count immigrants: "This is in my belief a war on immigration."

Now that Mamdani has accepted Strauber's resignation, he'll have to nominate his own Department of Investigation commissioner for the City Council to approve. Bill de Blasio chose his own campaign treasurer! Who proved too independent for the mayor's liking.

There is a more than zero probability that these consumer advocacy efforts nudge targeted businesses out of NYC. There is a reason we don't have a single Walmart in the five boroughs.
This is excellent! I hope @saalevine.bsky.social looks into the Crunch gyms in NYC, they love junk fees and their cancellation process is a byzantine scam.
