We live in a time where the most ridiculous and most nakedly evil people are in charge, destroying countless lives and creating terror and ruination everywhere, and the news media's main response is "maybe they have point."
Buh?
In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

Still processing the inanity of this cave, like, "We're going to make Republicans go on record that they want to destroy the ACA." You mean the motherfuckers who radicalized in opposition to it & voted to repeal it, like, 22 times? You're finally getting them on record? Really impressed over here
“If Schumer really wanted to use his considerable influence and leverage to stop this, he could have done that,” a senior Democratic Senate aide tells Zeteo. “He didn’t.”
Furious Liberals Call for Schumer to Step Aside, Senate Dems Mostly Quiet
After their shutdown surrender, liberal lawmakers are begging their base to unite behind them anyway – as Trumpland celebrates that their opposition is a bunch of 'p*ssies.'

an underrated part of this turducken of garbage is Elon posting an image of the Odyssey while discussing the Iliad, but it's all so terribly, terribly pathetic

This is my favorite part of this cycle we've been repeating for my entire adult life: when they sit backwards on the chair for some real talk and explain that you're a fucking peasant who doesn't understand how things work.
Durbin said critics of his vote “need to understand how the Senate works”

I have to hand it to them, it's an incredible bit to publicly lose a game of chicken, admit that's what happened, and then spend the next day lecturing everyone about courage and tenacity

I'm not even positive I know precisely what the Animaniacs are, and I still snort-laughed at this.
The funniest thing to happen now would be for Joyce Carol Oates to win the Nobel next year for her tweet. The least funny thing to happen would be Elon getting so incensed that he buys Warner Brothers and makes the Animaniacs anti-woke.

"costs"
INGRAHAM: Is affordability a voter perception issue of the economy, or is there more that needs to be done by Republicans?
TRUMP: More than anything else, it's a con job by the Democrats. Are you ready? Costs are way down.

Many people appear unable to decry the incompetence, fear, and self-dealing of many Democratic politicians without essentially equating them with Republicans, sometimes explicitly. I have theories as to why this is, but it's certainly true, and it's certainly boneheaded.

There’s a picture of me as a toddler on my birthday, sitting in front of a cake and wearing a cardboard Burger King hat, surrounded by my doting family. These regular toadying sessions remind me of that.
Pirro: "Mr President, there is in this room a group of people who love you, who believe in you, and who are so proud to be in this Oval Office and to be part of this amazing day because you have changed the course of America."

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Maybe it's a small thing, but "internal schism" makes it sound like office politics. Policy disagreements among public servants. In fact, it's a pack of fascist lunatics tearing apart the American justice system.
They got the HR guy to sign off on the subpoenas because the line prosecutors refused.

I'll go one further: "I think I'm right because I'm not an ideologue."
Needless to say, they're just as ideological as any Marxist or MAGA. Or anyway, just as dogmatic.
There are real moderates: they tend to be liberals. Liberal moderates. And they have no problem using either word.

this definition of moderate just means “I think I’m right but not because I’m an ideologue”
it puts no weight on the actual belief you’re espousing. it’s all about how people react to the belief.

Hey, it's just like when Tip and Ronnie would do battle over the line-item veto by day, and were the best of pals by night. What makes this any different?
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

This is now the dominant approach, including among many liberals, many self-identified leftists, and most “moderates.” All of them are reactionaries.
