Massachusetts is moving towards strong protections for the right to read! You've got a few minutes, you can send an email!
UPDATE! Several senators have filed amendments that, if passed, will significantly strengthen the bill! Please urge your senator to vote for Amendments 1, 4, 5, 6, and 18. This must be done before Wednesday, so the sooner the better. More details...1/5
URGENT Call to Action: The Senate version of the S.2696 is moving out of committee BUT this version does not include any protections for book creators and only contains weak first amendment protections. The timing is tight: please email your senator before Wednesday, Nov. 12! More info:

SEATTLE: If you know someone who lives in Seattle and guess they probably voted for Katie Wilson for Mayor, your contribution to this fight is to text them this information about making sure they voted with their signature on the envelope! TEXT them NOW.
There are 1,700 ballots that need signature confirmation. That is enough to change the election.

Go. Check. Your. Ballot.

Still processing the inanity of this cave, like, "We're going to make Republicans go on record that they want to destroy the ACA." You mean the motherfuckers who radicalized in opposition to it & voted to repeal it, like, 22 times? You're finally getting them on record? Really impressed over here

Whatever’s happening in the Senate, I want everyone to read this & remember that this is our lives. In Chicago. The suburbs. Everywhere. We fight it every day. With organizing. With cantankerousness. With courage. With humor & kindness & generosity & solidarity & patriotism & love

And we will win
Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

I’d like to hear: what are your grounding books? What books do you return to when the world is too much? Marilynne Robinson’s HOUSEKEEPING is the one for me—the language, the pace, the voice, all a kind of comfort.

There are two big problems with the “the Dem strategy wasn’t working argument.” One is that it was. The other is that changing the strategy did not require capitulation.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

Thinking about how there's still a chance the deal falls through either in the House or even the Senate & we'll he back at square 1 but with a weaker negotiating position & a complete & terrible vibe shift
Not a single Democrat who voted yes has even a 10% convincing explanation as to why. They’re all like “listen you don’t understand the senate, when we take this vote in 40 days the true Republican Party will be revealed and we’ll win” like wtf are you all talking about?
