Looks like they are still 117 books short of their goal. I bet #BookSky could take care of that. Supporting a book drive is a fantastic thing for out of towners to do, honestly, much better than buying gift cards
Minneapolis is still occupied even if national media has looked away. Moon Palace is still running a book drive for Spanish language books. Help out by buying a few. (And skipping the coupon)

I'm old enough to remember when muskrat asked how much it would cost to end world hunger, got told $20bn, and then didn't do anything but fuck up USAid with his doge-holes.
Honestly, this drives me fucking bananas. It would be so EASY for, like, 6 people to basically end poverty in American and they, like, don't.
I'm still waiting for some billionaire to figure out they could become a beloved folk hero just by taking a day or 3 and funding every single GoFundMe for rent relief and legal aid in Minnesota for a couple months.

$30 Million would go A LONG way, and they'd barely notice.

At the protests in Boston on Jan 10, a state police helicopter hovered low enough over the crowd that it was hard to hear the speakers. None of the usual news helicopters were overhead.

I filed a public records request with @massstatepolice.bsky.social asking why.

The loud helicopter is state police.

It’s oppressive. Intimidating. Making it hard to hear the speakers.

Booksellers are total heroes who keep us falling in love with reading. They are vitally important to our communities.

So I'm delighted that for the next 2 days sales of the audiobook of Lessons in Magic and Disaster via @libro.fm will benefit BINC, which helps booksellers in need 🥰

When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

Typing up a handwritten draft tonight, reminds of one of the things I really love about writing; a single project can require a ton of different levels of effort, thinking styles, time commitments, so you can kinda always make a least a little progress no matter your state of mind.

it is a drop in the bucket, but all of this is. everyone is just doing what they can.

It is VERY important to get your electeds to publish state "abolish" as it moves the needle of what will be a midterm platform point. If you want Dems to abolish when they have legislative levers, it has to be publicly acceptable discourse RIGHT NOW.
I will not support any funding deal that puts money in the hands of Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and this violent agency. Defund and abolish ICE now.

It is kinda wild to me how we treat the American right as if it some kind of grassroots political movement that represents about half the country, when we know it always manufactured by corporate elites. See also The Teas Party
This is only tangentially connected to me, but stick with me.

Leander is arguably where the rightwing book banning took off. I was a target!
