And how is it supposed to work with businesses that use VPNs to allow remote workers to connect to their secure company network? It feels like another 'policy' with no real understanding behind it.
Banning VPNs not only compromises privacy, but it compromises safety. Being forced to use public wifi when travelling without the option of a VPN to make that safe will just lead to compromised computers. All in pursuit of the so-called "Online Safety Act", which achieves the opposite of safety.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

Also a lesson for morally bankrupt, supposedly progressive parties worldwide: if you spend your energy trying to make voters who hate everything about you hate you slightly less, they still won't vote for you.

I just finished reading @kateelliottsff.bsky.social's latest, THE NAMELESS LAND (having reread the 1st part of the duology THE WITCH ROADS right before), and I am feeling bereft and irrationally annoyed that I can't read more in that world right this damn minute. Or read it again for the 1st time.

One of the many things that gets me about the Louvre password is you KNOW there are a bunch of world-weary sysadmins who gave up the fight years ago bc administrators kept complaining about a real password being TOO HARD & now they're simultaneously like 'I fucking TOLD YOU' & also in huge trouble.

All the tackles and gameplay seem very flimsy to me compared to my usual rugby code.

Lots of big waves this morning - mostly fun apart from getting whacked in the face a lot. But getting dressed after in the wind and rain was not enjoyable.
