There’s been in influx of new people here so, like many others I thought I’d do an intro thread.

Most of my time is taken up working with archives, museums and heritage sites. I provide an extra pair of management eyes, improve collections management or support organisations planning projects.
Last day of the holidays for me and what am I doing? Emptying my old office and considering if I can really ever go back to working in the coldest spot in the house.

Many congratulations to Dr Alan Borthwick and Dr David Brown of the National Records of Scotland on their well deserved recognition in the New Year Honours. Great to see such diligent, thorough work rewarded. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

I was overly Northern and said “Beautiful evening isn’t it?” As I passed Melvin Bragg sitting on a bench in Hampstead.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Can we fill the TL with suggestions of untapped archives/collections? That would be a lot of fun! I think there's quite a bit of material in the Gregory Bateson papers at UCSC Special Collections that has yet to be written about.
In the spirit of the season, I want to offer my fellow historians and other scholars the gift of an amazing, largely untapped archive.

Ended today cataloguing four vols of letters from teens to their family. They were lovingly collected by their mother who also decorated the cover.

Heartbreaking when in the middle of the volume, they change to condolence letters. A daughter died aged 14 & a son aged 18. Somber end to the day.

Oh my word I think Liz has got it! The ingredients are identical. My recipe is not for a cocktail, it’s a hangover cure!! Social media is wonderful

So I started off thinking this was a drink, what with the two gallons of brandy, various flowers and spices. Then the final line says leave to stand for 10 days! It’s not baked or steamed. Any ideas what it will turn out like?????

#ConfinedCocktails is brought to you from a very wired Jan. Too busy to eat this morning, then I was offered a ticket to Anfield at 1.30 for a 3pm kick off. Powered through on a combination of caffeine types, to see a great win. I’ve deserved these chips! Up the Reds!!!

The University Chamber Choir were testing the acoustics as I visited The Harris, Preston today. This National Lottery Heritage Funded project is being taken to the hearts of local people once more. It’s full of busyness. Parents sharing books with children, young people studying and friends meeting.

Important Christmas planning information:
Ok...sure. You NEED eels at your Christmas feast. But what *else* do you need?

In 1245, Henry III ordered his sheriff at Cambridge to deliver the following to him by Christmas:

2 cranes
24 swans
10 boars & their pickled heads
50 bitterns
6 peacocks

And 10,000 eels. Of course.
